Why Chatrapati Shivaji ! – because, when one is given a knighthood, you generally, if not always, address him with the title- Sir as a mark of respect.
I wouldnt have batted an eyelid if Madras Central(now Chennai Central) Station was changed to Shivaji Central – another Shivaji in guise of being Bharatiya, in your terms.
Why absurd in calling it CST?! The building was constructed by Firangies and named after the queen to commemorate her golden jubilee, a selfish motive of no significance to free India now. Why stick to same name when we have done away with Firangies long back!
Above all, the renaming/replacing firangi names with meaningful Bharatiya names, is officially approved by legislation and final approval is given by the Central Government with logical reasoning and not merely out of Patriotism or to connect/disconnect with history.
We, as true citizens of Bharat, cannot disregard on purpose or out of ignorance, the blood and sweat sacrificed by our earlier generations, by glorifying the buildings constructed n retaining the names given by Firangies and colonial systems thrust upon us by them. Yet, at the same time, no one is erasing the historical structures, which reminds us enough of our past, to make our resolves stronger for a united India – if only all Bharat ke Naagrik think this way.
Unfortunately, though the ugly tree of British philosophy – "Divide and Rule" has been chopped off, yet there are some roots remaining underground, which need to be uprooted. Naming Bharat as Bharat is just one step to achieving that, if one thinks and feels the way I or 'Lakshya Bharat' does.
One has to survive in this Global World but one cannot forget the more wrongs done by Britishers than the good, if any, done while they ruled Bharat.
While on Fringy pronunciation, I am glad there are not many in Bharat to bother of firangies pronouncing T-a-j M-a-h-a-l with multiple degree of distortion, to really change it to 'Crown Palace'!!
