You were right in that special relativity does deal with time. General relativity deals with how gravity affects time.

It's very important to understand frames of reference when understanding special relativity.

As a simple example, even if you are just sitting down, you are not completely stationary because earth is still revolving and orbiting. Everything in the universe is in motion already. How fast or how slow is what is relative.

General theory of relativity is based on the effect of gravity on time, while special theory of relativity is based on the effect of motion on time. Consequently, general theory of relativity is much more complex and difficult to understand.
