I agree with some of the posts here. A stereotype is usually grounded is some kind of reality, which is then exxagerated and turned into a 100% from a 30, 40 or 80%. Stereotypes make it easy for us to slot people/situations into easily knowable categories, and hence they are comforting and reassuring for most people.
As for stereotypes I hate, aaaaaaahhhhh - there are just so many of them! Here's the top of my list - In Delhi, most men assume that girls who dress in 'modern' clothes, including jeans and a tshirt, are looking to be eve-teased. And it is all right for a girl to be raped if she is dressed 'provocatively' or 'encourages' the rapist by talking to him or is having an affair with someone.

This is a good one...but I don't see the reason behind your obsession with drugs. 😆

Seriously Anju? I thought India changed drastically! Why even when I visited last December it seemed so- how do I put it- "westernized" if you want? Parents sure seem to become much more liberal since they are educated now. Sure, the same restrictions still apply, but that, even so far away they still follow my butt as well. As in: No going out after 6 with boys, except perhaps birthday parties or whatever... 😆

This is so so true.

Reminds me of the TVC (Tel Veni chappal) we used to have at Ruia.

India may have changed, but Indians in America have not changed.

Why? Is that where you hang out? 🤣 ...jk😆
I've seen those "hairy-oily-and-smelling-like-curry" types hanging out in those indian stores....there's a section like ten-twelve blocks away from my house full of desi stores, cusines, etc.....we call it "little india"😆. It almost feels like you're actually walking on indian streets, not like I've been to India but still...u know, it's just like how you feel like you're in China when you go to Chinatown? That's like the official place for the fobs to hang out. I go there with my dad sometimes to buy groceries and stuff. Gosh, their phony accent bugs me big time...I'd rather prefer the normal thick accent....and gosh, they totally make that hairy-oily-smelly stereotype come true!!!
