hi guys so in class we jus got done talking about stereotyping and all. I found it funny and sad at the same time. Lol at firs we were naming all the stereotypes we heard throughout our lives. But its sad cuz when it comes to where your from comments hurt.

You can not say u have never stereotyped anyone cuz that would be a lie😆 we all do somtimes knowingly and sometimes unknowingly.

And for those that dont know a stereotype is are generalizations, or assumptions, that people make about the characteristics of all members of a group, based on an image (often wrong) about what people in that group are like.

so what are some stereotypes have u thopught of or have ehard ppl say to u? and how do u feel about them?

for me i hate when ppl assume jus cuz im indian i have an accent, it can be funny at times but it gets annoying

My fiance is African America. I live in America and despite this.... nomatter where we go, we see people staring and talking. This comes ONLY from ppl. of my own race...which sucks big time (some of my Indian friends have explained how their parents and other relatives view me...and it is far from flattering...all because I have decided to marry a man who is darker than I am). My own family has judged my fiance and I...but despite all this...I think at least I will someday bring stronger children who learn from their parents experiences and will be a living part of the decision I have chosen to make.

Color and race...IMO are the strongest stereotypes ppl.make. It hurts beyond belief esp. when your own do it!

I love stereotypes. They make for great stand-up comedy.

I hate stereotypes!! Like RTH said, yes, they provide hilarious ammo to the stand-up comedians but that's pretty much it........Applying the same stereotypical theories in real life is a total no no!! Not all Japanese wear kimonos and not all Mexicans wear sombreros!!! Not all Chinese are excellent in Math...Not all Blacks are ghettos.....

And not all Desis are hairy, smell like curry and apply oil to their hair😆.

There is no person who does not stereotype, but while some are funny and not harmful, others can be really hurtful.

For example, it's a stereotype that all Asians have no life and always study, which as you all know is not true. But it's not a hurtful stereotype (at least not in my opinion) while viewing people of other races with suspicion simply because of their color can lead to a lot of hurt feelings.

While this may be unfair, you can't also blame your people entirely. I mean, not only Indians but other conservative cultures aren't used to seeing their children marry or date people of other races. It doesn't mean they have no respect for that other race (for the most part), but that they'd prefer their child to settle down with someone from their own race. Yeah, it's stereotypical, but every single human being is stereotypical in one way or other, even you and me. As long as they don't insult the people of that race openly, it's nothing dangerous or overly wrong.
I think if people are willing to date or marry people from other races, they should be prepared for the odd looks they'll receive, because it's not unusual. If your love is really strong, then you shouldn't let the odd stares bother you. It's hard to have both acceptance from your race and love in this type of relationship.

Awwww c'mon! Stereotypes are not bad at all. They simplify things by putting them in bigger chunks. Rather than dwelling over all the diversity shown by one particular kind and guesstimating whether it is this is that or may something else - you can simply state - that's it. How wonderful - hai na😆

Meri mano toh stereotypes end up uniting after blatant dividing 😆
