Back to the topic - I have very strict rules about how old the guy should be. He can't, not in a million years, be a day younger than I am. Preferably, he shouldn't be the same age as me either. I think a difference of 2-4 years is good - girls mature faster and guys are slow. So if the guy is 2-4 years older, that brings both at the same level of maturity. And I think that in this day and age, it is very important for two people to connect mentally before anything else, especially in a successful relationship.

Finding the right person at the right time is most important in a relationship. Sometimes, someone much older or younger can have the right personality to complement you and form a healthy relationship. Its also important that both people be equally ready at a point in life for that sort of relationship. If someone is not ready for relationships, no amount of age, wisdom or maturity can help.

There can also be problems between an elder girl and younger guy.The guy may not want to get married or have babies the time when the girl wants as he is still young and wants to lead a life without any responsibility.But the girl can be pressured from her family to get married as she is growing.Maybe one day the guy feel that the girl is too old and go for a new one.

An 18-yr-old girl would certainly not be able to meet the expectations of a 30-yr-old and vice versa. Yes, there will be clashes of opinions...more like a generation gap. How can you treat someone who's FIFTEEN years older than you as you life-partner, someone who you're supposed to walk with hand in hand in every step of your life and treat like your best friend, your soul mate? I mean, I'd never be able to do that. I guess it's about how you perceive people. I always take someone who's ten years or older than me as an elderly figure to me and the respect is more like the respect I have for my elder brothers, uncles, aunts, dad, mom, etc and not in the way I'm supposed to respect my spouse, if that makes sense. Likewise, I'd never be able to take someone younger than me (or of the same year as me) as my life partner coz I would wanna feel like the lady of the house and not the man of the house who takes care of a baby boy and dominates him. Even if the guy is mentally more mature than me but younger than me age-wise, I'd find it socially embarrassing. Like WA said, I prefer the guy to be at least two-five years older than the girl. More than that or less than that can take a u-turn or hand me a rakhi.😛
