Suhasini almost dropped the phone
"I can't find her Mom. I went out for a stroll after dinner while she stayed back to do some research over the internet. But when I returned after half an hour , she was nowhere to be found."
The anxiety was palpable in his voice
"Did you check all the possible places?.. "
Suhasini asked
"Yes, Mom. I checked in the kitchen,washroom,rooftop,everywhere. Her phone is also unreachable. I called out her name but there was no answer. I have a feeling that she has been kidnapped. Mom I can't make anymore delay. I am going to the police "
Adarsh was restless
"Listen Adarsh, I understand you are worried but try to think clearly. Why would anyone kidnap her? No one knows why you people are there. And if indeed she has been kidnapped then going to the local police station would be futile. You know they are powerful people ,the police is also in cahoots with them. That is why they refused to register the FIR."
Suhasini tried to explain
"So what do you want me to do? Sit quietly without doing anything."
Adarsh was losing his patience
"I am just asking you to cool your mind and try to think sensibly. I am sure you will find a way out. Meanwhile I will call Jaidev and ask him to reach there as soon as possible. He knows the local officials better. I will also try to contact the police commissioner of the area. You go back and look around the place once more. There must be some clue."
Suhasini pointed out
"I don't know how she could vanish into thin air like that. Mom, if anything happens to her I will never.. "
Adarsh cut the call without finishing his sentence
Suhasini had called up Jaidev and given him the necessary instructions. She also informed the commissioner of police who promised to help in all possible ways without getting the matter out. She realized that Adarsh was not in a position to think straight. He was a very sensible and level headed person but when it came to his near and dear ones he would always freak out. That is why she sent Jaidev there. She then quietly went back to the room and sat down beside a sleeping Manohar.She did not want to disturb him as he was not keeping well for the past few days. She took his hand and held it tightly. She was suddenly feeling very weak. If something were to happen to Swadheenta, she would lose Adarsh as well. She would never be able to forgive herself if that happened.
Adarsh was walking towards the gates of the inspection bungalow when he spotted two shadows just outside it. He went nearer and recognized one of them. It was Swadheenta. He felt as if he got his life back. But why was the other person holding her hand? Adarsh could not wait anymore. He ran at the top of his speed and went and punched the person on the face. The guy recovered quickly from the blow and punched him back.
Seeing that Swadheenta shouted,
"Stop it both of you. Are you alright Adarsh? "
She walked upto him.
Adarsh felt he has broken his nose. He tried to feel it and realized it was bleeding. Swadheenta too noticed it.
"Come inside, I will see if I can get some ice"
"Where will you get ice here? There is no refrigerator in the bungalow"
Adarsh pointed out. He was not worried about his broken nose. He was just relieved to get his wife back. He wanted to hug her tightly and never let her go.
"I am sorry madam, I could not recognize him in the dark. ..but you don't worry, I will get ice. There is a bar nearby, I know the people there. "
The man said and left. Adarsh finally recognized him. He was the same cafe guy whom they were searching.
As soon as they got inside, Adarsh held her hand and pulled her into a passionate embrace
"Where did you go without informing? You know what was my condition? I looked for you everywhere. I was even about to go to the police. And what was wrong with your phone?"
Swadheenta looked at his disheveled condition and realized he was serious. She managed to wriggle out of the embrace as she was worried the guy would be back anytime. Then she took Adarsh and seated him down on the couch.
"I am sorry Adarsh. I did not realize that you would be so worried. After you left, I soon got bored so decided to explore the house a bit. It was then I discovered a secret room in the basement. I went inside to see what was there in it and you know I found some British era artefacts there. I came back to share it with you but couldn't find you. I thought you had not come back. I was about to call you but then Roshan came.. "
"Who is Roshan now? And when are you going to stop your Sherlock Holmes activities?"
Adarsh was irritated
"I am Roshan"
The guy was back.
He took the ice cubes and tried to stop the bleeding. Then he asked for a piece of cloth. Then he gently bandaged his nose.
He told them to visit the doctor next morning.
Adarsh asked him the reason to come here so late in the night. Swadheenta then explained everything that Roshan had told her about his family. How the minister's son deceived his sister into making an intimate relationship with the promise of marriage. They did not even know who he was at the time. He came just as a tourist and met his sister when he came to his father's clinic with an injured friend. Their family lived in a village about 5 kilometers away from the main town. The guy vanished soon after. His sister was shattered. Then she learned she was pregnant. Everyone asked her to abort the child but she showed remarkable courage and gave birth to it. Then the guy suddenly returned when the child was about a year old. He told her that he would take both of their responsibility. He was also ready to marry her. Then one fine morning he took the child along with him for a walk in the woods but soon came back crying. He told them that he was washing his face in the mountain stream when the child slipped from his hand and was carried away by the current. The next day the guy vanished just as he had come. Everyone in their family believed that he must have killed the child to remove all traces of his relationship with Roshan's sister. Their belief became more firm when they learnt that he was the son of a big shot minister and was also married. The rest of it they have read in that newspaper article. His sister was now a living corpse. The family just wanted justice and nothing else.
After Roshan had left Adarsh suddenly remembered something.
"Hello Mom, Swadheenta is fine. She had gone to the basement room therefore her phone was unreachable. I am really sorry about what I told you. I was not in my senses."
Adarsh was feeling guilty about accusing his mother.
"Oh, this girl.! You don't need to feel guilty. I perfectly understand what you must have been going through. I will talk to Jaidev and see if he has started off. And one more thing. I know nothing happened today but you were right, this is a dangerous mission. I don't want you to get into any problem. So you don't have to get into this. I will find some other way. You finish your honeymoon and come back."
Suhasini told him
"No Mom, we cannot back out now. We are no longer in this for you or Dad, we are in this for justice and we have promised Roshan that we will fight together to bring out the truth"
Their was an unusual firmness in his voice
Suhasini realized it was useless to push him any further. She put the phone down. Adarsh and Swadheenta's resolve cannot be broken. She will have to brace herself for some difficult times ahead.
