CHAPTER 7
Adarsh felt someone jerk him to wake him up from hhis sleep but he couldn't open his eyes yet. He felt something warm on his face. He opened his eyes slightly and his hazy vision showed him that someone was opening his window making the sun rays fall on him. Someone dressed in white. Who? Swadheenta, a voice said.
He opened his eyes quickly and sat up. To his surprise the person who had woken him up was indeed dressed in white but was not dressed in a white dress. It wasn't Swadheenta. Adarsh sulked seeing his younger brother standing in front of him dressed in black tracksuit and white tees. Adarsh looked at him disappointed. But then what had he expected? He remembered. He had dreamt of being woken up by Swadheenta . and he didn't know why.
"Rise and shine Sleeping Beauty. Or is it Sleeping Handsome? " Abhay teased him.
Adarsh looked around. Why on earth was Abhay waking him up? He looked at the clock by his bedside. It was almost eight in the morning. Last night he had been too tired and had fallen asleep before he could set the alarm.
Abhay understanding his brother's confusion said "Bhai, kal raat main ghar aaya toh security ne bataaya ki aap thodi der pehle aaye the aur jab main yahaan aaya toh aap so chuke the . Subah jogging ke time aap nahin aaye toh main yahaan aaya tha. Par aap gehri neend mein the. Isliye main akele chala gaya. Abhi waapas aaya toh socha aapko utha loon. "
" Oh no. Bahot late ho gayi. Subah ek zaroori kaam tha. Kisi se kuch promise kiya tha
" Adarsh said getting off the bed in a hurry.
" Agar Swadheenta ki scooty ki baat kar rahe ho toh don't worry. Maine aapka kaam kar diya. " Abhay said with a dramatic bow.
Adarsh looked at him taken aback.
" Come on bhai . Main Swadheenta ki scooter kaise nahin pehchaanta. Par pareshan mat hona. Kisi aur ne nahin dekha. Mom aur Bhabhi Subah baahar nikalte nahin . Bhai Papa ke saath study mein hai. Maine jogging se pehle scooty SSwadheenta ke ghar pahuncha diya. " Abhay said smiling.
Adarsh felt angry with his brother and he didn't know why . Hadn't Abhay helped him? He should have been happy. ...unless he was waiting to see her. See her smiling in the morning.
He was distracted from his thoughts by Abhay.
" Bhai jaldi tayaar ho jaayiye. Varna mom poochegi ki unka alarm clock jitna punctual beta late kyun ho gaya. "
"Haan haan. How did it go with Simmi last night? " Adarsh asked him.
" She threw me out. Pehle gate par security ko keh ke roka par woh toh jaante hain mujhe. Isliye unhone gate khol diya. Simmi ne khud ko room mein band kar diya. Maine koshish ki baat karne ki par woh nahin maani. Kaafi late ho gaya toh main waapas aa gaya. Use stress nahin dena chahta hoon. But don't worry. Aaj use mana loonga. She can't be angry for long. Aur phir Swadheenta ne kaha hai woh Simmi se baat karegi. Simmi uski baat kabhi nahin daalegi. " Abhay told him.
" Toh shaadi ke baat kya karega. Har baar ladaai ke baad Swadheenta ko bulayega? "Adarsh asked.
" Well aap mere help kar sakte ho. Aap use meri Bhabhi bana do. Toh hum ek hi ghar mein rahenge aur woh Simmi ko mana legi. " Abhay teased him.
"Accha plan hai. Bas ek problem hai. Agar aisa hua toh mom hum chaaron ko ghar se nikaal degi. " Adarsh replied.
The brothers sat there laughing.

Suhasini sat down at the breakfast table. Abhay and Adarsh hadn't come down to breakfast yet. She looked at the clock. It was time. Abhay would get late at times. That was nothing new. But Adarsh was always on time. She wondered where he was. Just then Abhay joined them.
Abhay greeted his mom and sat down by her. His mother had nodded in response but she didn't speak a word. He could say she was very angry with him. Suhasini noticed that her son was dressed in casuals. So he probably wasn't going to the station. But she didn't ask him about it.
"Abhay, Adarsh kahaan hai?" Jaya asked breaking the silence.
" Yahaan hoon Bhabhi. " Adarsh said coming down the stairs.
Suhasini looked at him. He looked somewhat ruffled. She could say he had been in a hurry. Maybe he was busy with work, she thought.
"Chottu, main teri car le jaaon? " Adarsh asked Abhay in between.
" Sorry bhai. Main aaj office nahin jaa raha hoon. Thoda kaam hai. " Abhay said looking away from his mom.
" Adarsh take my car. Main toh Dad ke saath jaaonga. " Jaidev told him giving him the key.
A few minutes later Adarsh was ready to leave. Abhay had just left to meet Simmi. Adarsh was about to get into the car when his phone rang. Vanshika was calling. He answered the call wondering why she was calling him.
"Adarsh, mera ek request hai."She said after greeting him.
"Bolo Vanshika. Kya hua? " He asked.
" Aaj Yash aa raha hai aur mere parents Jaipur gaye hain kaam se. So I was wondering if you could come with me to pick him up. " She said.
" Of course. I will be there. Kitne baje aana hai? " He replied.
" Around 5. Main wait karoongi. " She said hanging up.
Adarsh got inside the car and left for the office. He would have to leave early to meet Vanshika. He felt more hesitant than usual to meet Vanshika. She was his fiancee after all. In a matter of weeks she would be his wife. The thought made him panic. He knew he wasn't in love with her but she was a good person. They had been classmates at school, she was from a rich family of royal lineage. She was a good match for him. Yet he wasn't happy. Abhay was right though he wouldn't admit that when Abhay was around. Vanshika wasn't what he wanted. But they were engaged and he didn't see any reason to break the engagement. Except for if he fell in love with someone else. ...If.

Swadheenta sat down at her desk. Despite having woken up late she felt tired. Last night she had gone home all tired but her dear brother hadn't allowed her to sleep until she had answered all his questions. He wanted to know what she was doing with Adarsh Sinha.
"Freedom tum uske saath kya rahi thi? Are you guys dating? Bataaya kyun nahin mujhe unhe yahaan laane se pehle? Kitna weird tha unse achanak milna considering ki meri wajah se unhe thapad padi thi. " And on he went.
He already knew that Simmi was in love with a guy and she told him the rest of the story.
"Wow freedom. Wajah jo bhi ho Adarsh Sinha is back in your life. "Asad had said.
" What does that mean? Meri life mein woh kyun aayega? " She asked.
" Come on Freedom. Mujhse jhoot mat bolo. Tum use pasand karti thi na? Mujhe pata hai. You were so angry with me that day. "Asad said confidently.
" Haan. Woh bahut cute aur genuine tha, isliye accha laga mujhe. Par its only a crush aur woh bhi bahut time pehle. Ab kuch nahin ha." She tried to protest.
" Accha. Toh blush kyun kar rahi ho? " Asad had asked her leaving the room.
She had woken up late in the morning and the thing she had been worried about was that Adarsh might have come to meet her or rather return her scooter. She was smiling to herself thinking about the previous night when Asad had tossed her scooter keys into her lap. She had looked at him surprised. He told her that Abhay had brought the scooter . She was relieved that she hadn't missed her chance to meet Adarsh. But why?
" Simmi di ke boyfriend bahot cute hai. Police officer hai par super cool bhi hai. Adarsh Sinha bhi kuch kam nahin hai. Kyun Freedom?" He asked.
" Haan. Adarsh is cool too. "She said distracted.
Asad was teasing her all morning till she left home for work. And she had felt herself blush every single time.
Now she wondered why?

Jaya laid the plates for lunch. It wasn't time for lunch yet but Adarsh had returned home to take some important file and she thought he might stay for lunch. So she had arranged everything. Now finished with her work she sat down on the sofa as usual and grabbed a magazine to read. But she was in no mood to read.
The events of the previous evening was bothering her. Jai was right. Abhay was in love with someone. But she hadn't caused any damage. Her mother in law had told her to tell the family of the prospective bride that Abhay didn't want to get married right now. That was okay. But Mom wasn't going to let Abhay marry the girl he loved. And Abhay wasn't Jaidev. He wasn't going to listen to her. Jaya Could say this was the silence before a storm.
A part of her, the perfect bahu , supported her mother in law's decision. But another part, a rejected wife, wanted Abhay to marry his love lest another woman should suffer like her.
She saw Abhay coming. At the breakfast table he had been worried and sad but now he seemed his usual self.
" Bhabhi, mujhe bahot bhook lagi hai. " Abhay said smiling.
She set about serving lunch.
"Bhabhi, aap bhi bethiye na. " Abhay insisted.
She took the chair next to his smiling.
" Kya hua ? Achanak itne khush? Subah toh mera devar sad sad tha. " She asked surprised.
" Kyunki Simmi ko mana liya maine. We had a fight yesterday. "Abhay told her grinning.
Jaya laughed.
" Hasiye mat Bhabhi. Jaidev Bhai lucky hai ki aap itni samajhdaar ho. Aap naaraaz hi nahin hoti ho. Par Simmi bahot ziddi hai. Use manaate manaate meri saari energy khatam ho gayi. " Abhay told her.
" Toh meri honewali devrani acchi nahin hai. " Jaya asked teasingly.
" Nahin sweet toh hai par thodi childish hai. Par devrani toh woh tab banegi jab mom maan jaayegi. " Abhay said sadly.
" I can help you with that. Main Simmi se miloon? Uske baad agar main mom se baat karoongi toh maybe she will give you a chance. " Jaya told him.
Abhay brightened up at that and thanked her. Just then Adarsh came down the stairs.
"Adarsh tum bhi khaana khaa lo. " Jaya called him.
" No Bhabhi. Mujhe jaana hai. Have to pick up my car. Chottu tujhe drop kar de. " Adarsh said.
The brothers were about to leave when Adarsh remembered something.
" Bhabhi, aapka ek cheez mere paas hai. " He said fishing his pockets and handed Jaya an earring.
Jaya and Abhay looked at him confused.
" Bhai ki car se mila tha. Seat ke neeche tha. Mujhe laga aapki hogi. " Adarsh told Jaya.
" Yeh mera nahin hai "Jaya said taking it.
"Mom ki hogi. Kal bhai ne unhe drop kiya tha subah. " Abhay said.
After the brothers left Jaya looked at the earring again. It wasn't hers and Abhay was wrong. It wasn't Mom's either
It was a cheap kind of earring and too colorful. Mom hated these things. So where had it come from. Jai used his car rarely. He usually accompanied Dad everywhere and used Dad's car. He used his car only when he was not working with dad or for personal things. Yesterday he had taken his car and had come home late. He had told her he was with a college friend who had come down from London with his family. She had been surprised when he had actually bothered to explain where he was rather than the usual one word answers he gave her.
Now she wondered if Jai was hiding something from her. Where had the earring come from? Who was he with last night?
Thoughts formed in her mind but she dismissed them.
Come on Jaya. Don't be a fool. She told herself uncertainly.
