Talat Ali, the Pakistan team manager, told Geo TV they had not been given full details by the police. "They have not made any reference to poisoning or anything yet, as some reports are suggesting," Ali said. "There is no information at all that this poison could be involved. Investigations will carry on so we cannot come to any conclusions right now."

Foul play in Bob death, cops confirm poisoning

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Hours after the Pakistan Cricket Board revealed that the findings from a post-mortem into the death of Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer were "inconclusive", Pakistan's Geo TV on Wednesday claimed that the probe is now focusing on a murder angle.

The Jamaican police later confirmed that Bob Woolmer's death was not natural and that he seems to have died of "poisoning".

Poison Traces Found In Deceased Pakistan Coach Bob Woolmer's Hotel Room: Jamaican Police

Submitted by Rohit Bhandiye on Wed, 2007-03-21 05:09.

Jamaican Police on Wednesday confirmed that poison traces have been found in deceased Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer's hotel room. The information lends credence to the apprehensions that the Pakistan coach was murdered. Woolmer's preliminary post-mortem report on Tuesday had proved inconclusive. Toxicology and other forensic tests were carried out by the medical and police teams.

Police is waiting for the results of the report to make headway into the investigation. Jamaica Police is likely to share with public the updates into the investigation on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Pakistan team players are being questioned about their whereabouts at the time of Woolmer's death. Pakistan physio and trainer are also being interrogated.

Geo Television also reported that there was information that Woolmer might have been murdered.

Incidentally, on Tuesday, former Pakistan pacer Sarfaraz Nawaz had claimed that Woolmer had been murdered.

Nawaz, known for shooting off his mouth, said that he was sure the match-fixing mafia was behind Woolmer's death. Woolmer died under mysterious circumstances on Sunday.

Woolmer's death came a day after Pakistan suffered a shock defeat against Ireland and was eliminated from the World Cup.

The family of Bob Woolmer has authorized local authorities in Kingston to carry out a post mortem.

"His family is unable to come over to Kingston. But they have authorized the team's trainer, Murray Stevenson to have the autopsy conducted," the team's assistant manager Asad Mustafa told reporters over the telephone.

He said that once the post mortem was completed and the official report was released, Stevenson would send or fly with the body to Cape Town, Woolmer's hometown.

The Pakistan camp have been struggling to cope with Woolmer's death and have not had a practice session since their defeat by Ireland on Saturday which knocked them out of the tournament.

"It will be very difficult to motivate the boys for the game as they are all still shocked at this tragic happening," Mustafa said.

They are due to play their final Group D game against Zimbabwe on Wednesday.

Inzamam wants to win for Woolmer

Associated Press | Posted Mar 21, 2007 at 01:47 | Updated Mar 21, 2007 at 12:06

ONLY MEMORIES REMAIN: Inzamam-ul Haq will retire from One-Dayers after the World Cup.

Kingston: Inzamam-ul Haq will lead Pakistan for one more match, and has vowed to win it for Bob Woolmer.

Woolmer, a former England Test batsman and South Africa coach, had been coaching Pakistan since 2004.

Inzamam announced after Woolmer's death that he will quit as captain and retire from One-Day cricket after the World Cup.

That leaves him one more match, against Zimbabwe on Wednesday.

Zimbabwe are playing for a place in the Super 8s. Pakistan playing for pride, and in memory of Woolmer.

"We'll do our best for Bob, but whatever we do, it won't be enough," the 37-year-old batsman said. "He was a good man. Whenever any of the boys had a problem, he'd sit with them, and we were very attached to him."

On the field, Pakistan will be boosted by the firepower of Shahid Afridi, the cricket enigma who Woolmer rediscovered when he took over in June 2004.

Hard-hitting Afridi missed the opening losses as he was completing a four-match ICC ban but the leg-spinning all-rounder is available again.
