This is an FYI post......
When Radhika is shown waking up in the morning, like she was on Monday in their outdoor bedroom and at other times too, she always brings her palms side by side facing up and eventually to her face. That is a very significant gesture, with a morning prayer (pratah = morning, shlok = verse/couplet) attached to the gesture in Hinduism.
The prayer:
Karaagre vasate Lakshmi karamadhye Saraswati
Karamoole tu Govindah prabhaate karadarshanam
Literal translation:
Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, resides in the fore-most part of the hands, Saraswati, the Goddess of learning, resides in the palm, and Govinda, the Lord Narayana, resides at the root, near the wrist.
kara - hand
agre - foremost (fingertips)
vasate - resides
madhye - middle (palm)
moola - root (wrist)
prabhaate - morning/sunrise
darshanam - see with reverence
Significance of the prayer:
In Hinduism we believe that all deeds/actions - good or bad - are done by our hands, e.g. daan-dharma or hitting someone. As you get up in the morning, you remind yourself with a short prayer that God resides in your hands. By using your hands wisely and performing good deeds and honest labor, may you gain wealth, knowledge and act in the name of God throughout the day.

Gardes, Radhika does this gesture from the very first episode. I always thought it had to do something with asking or thanking the Gods for something but wasn't sure what exactly the significance was. So, thank you for the very interesting explanation.

Isn't it amazing that the creatives who pay attention to such a tiny detail that is so beautiful in meaning also has the ability to show absolutely crass stuff ? I wish they would also start showing Radhika singing the morning aarti. That used to be so special. And Dev used to always look at her longingly and admiringly with love oozing out of his eyes when ever he would hear her singing the aarti. Usually hearing that aarti is supposed to awaken your love for Kanha or God. In Dev's case it had the opposite effect. 😆

Thanks, Angake. I had noticed that even when she was in VN and would get up from her bedding on the floor.
There are a few prayers that fall under the category of Pratah Smaran (morning recitations) and this shlok is the first of the many. Another one is about asking forgiveness of Mother Earth, before getting out of bed, for stepping on it. Yet one more evokes the main deities to bless the day and then the planets are evoked to bestow their blessings on all that you do during the course of the day.
Just my take on some of the rituals of Hinduism.

Gardes I have heard another version of this prayer .......

karagre vasate lakshmi, kara-madhye saraswati

kara-moole sthita gauri, mangalam kara-darshanam

which translates to

Lakshmi in the finger tips, Saraswati on the palm

Shakti is situated in the wrist, it is auspicious to see the hands

Lakshmi is at the finger tips because as you have said we do work with our fingers and thumbs……..to earn resources, to earn money, to create things. It is said that ones palm is like a book and also that destiny resides in our palms…….and we use knowledge to create our destiny…so Sarswati resides in our palm. The power to use our hands properly comes from our wrist………..so there lies the storage of energy or shakti or Gauri………Since we need energy to do work and to use our brains, without energy or shakti the other two won't happen. So Gauri drives the other two.

In Hinduism the three main Gods- Bhrama, Vishnu and Mahadev represents creation, sustenance and transformation……….Brahmas consort is Saraswati (knowledge), Vishnus is Lakshmi (wealth) and Mahadev is Parvati/Gauri (Shakti/energy)……..so it means that the entire power of the Universe is in your hands.

Thanks, Radev2010. Long time no see!
I am glad your morning started auspiciously! I have to live up to Sandeepa and Rajsri's expectations of me! I cannot be labeled "wisest" and continue writing silly stuff, can I?
You have a good day too and hope to see more of you.

Actually, there is slight confusion here... The shlok was quoted as follows but it is not quite accurate... I say the mantra daily and have been saying it for many years now. Also, confirmed through multiple reliable sources.
ORIGINAL QUOTE:
The prayer:
Karaagre vasate Lakshmi karamadhye Saraswati
Karamoole tu Govindah prabhaate karadarshanam
Literal translation:
Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, resides in the fore-most part of the hands, Saraswati, the Goddess of learning, resides in the palm, and Govinda, the Lord Narayana, resides at the root, near the wrist.
THE CORRECT VERSION:
The prayer:
Karaagre vasate Lakshmi karamoolee Saraswati
Karamadhye tu Govindah prabhaate karadarshanam
Literal translation:
Kar = Hands
aagare = front
madhye = center
Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, resides in the fore-most part of the hands, Saraswati, the Goddess of learning and knowledege, resides in the root near the wrist that provides knowledge for the fingers (Laxmi) to work and generate, and Govinda, the Lord Narayana, resides in the center in the palm.
