Story so far

He had a very different expression on his face.

He came close to her.

R: 'Dev?'

D: 'Haan, muzhe tumse kuch kehena tha.'

R: 'Haan Dev aap kuch kehene wale the?'

Dev looked at her. She knew the exact moment when Dev changed his mind about what he wanted to say. Instead, he cupped her face and said 'Keshav was right. You were the most beautiful woman in the party, today.'

Radhika was taken aback from this unexpected complement.

What was even more unexpected was what he did next.

He kissed her fore head, just as he used to do almost ten years ago. She was too shocked to react.

Part 15

Radhika opened the door to her bedroom in a trance.

'Good night 'my little princess''. Dev's words echoced in her ears. She held her cheeks which still tingled by Dev's touch.

'My little Princess'. 'My little Princess'. He always would call her that, ten years ago.

She was used to being called that by Dev. But he had rarely called her that after he had returned.

But today it felt different.

Starange.

The way Dev said it and the way Dev touched her was DIFFERENT.

STRANGE.

Radhika mechanically changed her clothes, went to her bed and lied down.

She closed her eyes and dreamed.

Dreamed of Dev, the chilled hood memories came back to her. How Dev would take her every where, even on his dates.

She remembered how some of his girlfriends would object to her presence and he would say 'Oh, don't mid her, she is 'my little princess''

She dreamt of Dev cupping her face and kissing her forehead and say 'Good nite 'my little princess''

Suddenly she woke up drenched in sweat. It was almost 4:00 am.

Radhika got up took her bath and went to the puja ghar.

She closed her eyes to pray to her kanha when she saw Dev's smiling and naughty face. She immediately opened her eyes and said 'kanha yeh muzhe kya hogaya hai? Main itni vichlit kyoun hoon?'

She closed her eyes again and concentrated harder.

She finished her puja and turned to go to wake chachaji up and saw Dev smiling at her.

R: 'Aap?'

D: 'Good morning Radhika!!!'

Radhika could manage only a fake smile and said 'Good morning'.

She saw him folding his hands and praying to kanha.

She made her quick exit.

Dev opened his eyes and turned to where Radhika was. She had gone.

But he smiled and thanked kanha. He was glad that she affected his presence.

He knew what he had to do and knew where to find her.

He went straight to the kitchen. Radhika had taken to prepare the breakfast and the morning to for his dad.

She was aware of his presence.

D: 'Thodi chai milegi?' he wnt straight to the counter and popped himself on the stool.

Radhika looked at Dev and poured him some tea.

D: 'You won't have some?'

R: 'No'

Radhika was about to pick up the tray to take to chachaji's room.

D: 'Wait Radhika. I will accompany you.'

She waited for him to finish his tea.

D: 'you could talk to me for a while.'

R: 'Have you and Vishakha planned something today?'

D: 'Does your conversation with me have to involve Vishakha every time? '

R: 'Ji?'

D: 'Tum muzhse mere bare mein nahi puch sakti? Nahi pooch sakti ki in dus saalon mein kya kiya maine? Keise raha main? Kya haal tha mera?' he said the last question almost like a whisper. He again had the same expressions on his face that she had seen a couple of times.

R: 'Who…. Main…'

Dev changed his expressions and was again back to his normal ways.

D: 'It is almost 6:15 am.'

Radhika picked up the tray and led them out of the kitchen.

'Why do you do this Radhika?' Dev thought to himself. 'You can talk to every soul around you nicely, but me!!! Are… Radhika you as much do NOT even talk to me. '

He just glanced at her.

Radhika sensed that Dev was looking at her. A shiver ran down her spine. She tightened the girp on the tray and concentrated on her every step.

Dev opened the door for her to go in, but did not move. Radhika had to squeeze in to get inside.

Sunil Malhotra had already got up and was reading the morning paper and he looked up.

'Oh the two people I love the most and that too together.'

R: 'Good morning chachaji!!!'

D: 'Good morning Dad!!!'

Dev went and sat at on the bed near his father.

Radhika handed over the cup to Sunil Malhotra.

SM: 'It was my dream that both of you come together to wake me up.'

Dev looked up at Radhika and smiled. Radhika avoided looking at Dev.

She went stratight to the cupboard and got a suit out.

She arranged the books on his study table.

She went to the bath room and prepared his bath.

All this while, Sunil Malhotra kept on prasing her.

And suddenly he made a statement that left Radhika dizzy.

SM: 'Dev you know what!!!! I always thought that you would marry Radhika. Some how, I had a feeling that you two would end up together.'

Radhika froze at her work and looked at her chachaji. She looked at Dev and foud him sitting as if he was not surprised at what his father said.

She thought to herself 'Did I hear it or is it just my imagination?'

No she had definatily heard it. What her chachajii said next confirmed it.

SM: 'The way you took care of her when you both were young, the way you remembered her every small detail, I thought that one day YOU two would get married.'

Dev smiled at his Dad and then looked at Radhika.

Radhika was not sure what do do, where to look. She was very uncomfortable by this situation now.

SM: 'Ya and then you surprised all of us by your decision of marrying Vishakha. I hope you are sure about this?'

Dev was going to say something but he was not given any chance.

SM: 'I know, I should not be saying this, especially after the engagement.'

D: 'Dad, I guess you are making Radhika uncomfortable.'

SM: (signaling Radhika to come close and sit on his right side): 'Oh, Sorry beta, but I love you very much and I wanted you and Dev to come to wake me up every day, just like you came today. '

R: (trying to hold back her tears and try hard to sound normal) 'Well chachaji!!! Your dream can still come true, except for a minor change. Vishakha can acoompany Dev every morning! '

Radhika looked at Dev hoping he could support her here and change the topic. But she was disappointed.

SM: 'Radhika, will it be the same?'

R: 'It will be evn better, chachaji. Apaka beta aur bhu ayenge aapko jagaane ko.'

SM: 'Meri pasand, na pasand, adate, tumse acha koi nahi jaanta, bete.'

R: 'Main hoon na chacjaji, main sab sikha doongi Vishakha ko. Who bahut acchi ladki hai chachaji, dheere dheere sab seekh jayegi.'

SM: 'Hhmmmm….' Sunil Malhotra looked thoughtful but not convinced.

Radhika thought that it was the best time to escape from there.

R: 'Accha chachaji, apki puja ki samaghri manddir me rakkhi hai. Tayyar ho kar aajayeeye. Nashta bhi almost tayyar hai.'

Radhika quickly was out of the room, leaving chachaji and Dev behind.

She was almost near the corner when she heard Dev say 'It is not a MINOR change, you know'

Radhika turned and had a question mark on her face.

Dev as if reading her thoughts said, 'Dad's dream, where you said that it will come true excep for a MINOR change, that Vishkaha, instead of YOU will accompany me to wake dad up. '

R: 'Who, Dev, muzhe maaf kar deejiye, mera matlab vo nahi tha. Mera intenetion Vishakha ko 'minor' kehena nahi tha.. vho to… '

D: 'No, Radhika. Not Vishakha, but any thing related to YOU can not be MINOR. Mere liye tum na hi kabhi mamooli thi, na ho aur na he kabhi mamooli rahogi. '

With that Dev left Radhika gaping at him in surprise.
