Seema, that was a very good episode where Dev realizes that something is wrong when Radhika doesn't show up to meet with him. As he knew his mother's reservations about Radhika, he went to her and confronted her and then forced her to back down. Afterwards he went to Radhika to console her and assure her that things would be ok. It was a good episode where all characters - Shastriji, Vaishali, Dev and Radhika were very consistent.

Neerja, thanks. The song is from the movie Babul and is picturized on John Abraham and Rani Mukherjee. The movie was over the top melodrama, but the song was good. Here Rani's character had lost her husband and was in depression. So John's character was talking about taking away all her pains and giving her peace.

Cristina, thanks. The scenes were sad but good because here they showed that Dev cared about Radhika's pain when nobody else was.

My next VM is on the song "Yeh sama-sama hai pyar ka" from the movie "jab jab phool khile". When I heard this song, I thought lyrics suited Radhika of CB2 who was a carefree creature in her own world. But I did not have scenes for this song from CB2. So I decided to make it on Radhika of CB1.

After making it, I felt it suited Radhika of CB1 too during the time period when she got engaged to Dev after all the drama. That was the time her transformation started because of Dev who helped her recover from her abusive past. This track was well handled despite all the melodrama because they showed that gradual transformation of Radhika from a subdued person to a more free person.

So I have titled this VM as "The Genesis of a Butterfly" even though the title doesn't directly match the lyrics. But the sequence of the VM made me think of Radhika as somebody who became a butterfly as her relationship with Dev progressed. The word "Genesis" means "The coming into being of something or the origin". The title is taken from a poem by Victor Hugo.

Williams Wordsworth also has written a poem "To a Butterfly". I have quoted few lines from that poem to show Dev's perspective who is thinking of Radhika as this butterfly who may fly away and he wants to hold on to her. He is also that breeze in her life that brings her back to life figuratively.

Again both poems have different meanings, but here I am interpreting them in context of Radhika. Misti, this interpretation is based on how you used to see Radhika of CB1. So I have taken it from you because this is not how I saw Radhika initially as I hadn't liked her character too much during the middle of that show.

THE GENESIS OF BUTTERFLIES (By Victor Hugo)

The dawn is smiling on the dew that covers
The tearful roses; lo, the little lovers
That kiss the buds, and all the flutterings
In jasmine bloom, and privet, of white wings,
That go and come, and fly, and peep and hide,
With muffled music, murmured far and wide.
Ah, the Spring time, when we think of all the lays
That dreamy lovers send to dreamy mays,
Of the fond hearts within a billet bound,
Of all the soft silk paper that pens wound,
The messages of love that mortals write
Filled with intoxication of delight,
Written in April and before the May time
Shredded and flown, playthings for the wind's playtime,
We dream that all white butterflies above,
Who seek through clouds or waters souls to love,
And leave their lady mistress in despair,
To flit to flowers, as kinder and more fair,
Are but torn love-letters, that through the skies
Flutter, and float, and change to butterflies.

"To A Butterfly" (William Wordsworth)

I'VE watched you now a full half-hour;
Self-poised upon that yellow flower
And, little Butterfly! indeed
I know not if you sleep or feed.
How motionless!--not frozen seas
More motionless! and then
What joy awaits you, when the breeze
Hath found you out among the trees,
And calls you forth again!

STAY near me--do not take thy flight!
A little longer stay in sight!
Much converse do I find in thee,
Float near me; do not yet depart!
Dead times revive in thee:
Thou bring'st, gay creature as thou art!

Thanks Angie for the VM...Radhika was a butterfly during this track and thats why in CB1 this is my favourite track. It was not a perfect track because they did show some nonsense but I liked the way they showed Dev slowly bringing out Radhika from her shell. In the beginning they had shown Radhika having a quiet self confidence and she did have it in her to recover and to stand up against amma and other wrong stuff in her own way but Devki abandoning her and not supporting her regarding telling the truth (shown during the jhoola episode) probably broke her and she slowly went into her shell. Interesting that you named her as a butterly and I also refereed to her as Venessa (it means butterly) during this time (http://www.india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1299212&PID=26154258&#26154258).

All the poems given below and the lyrics of this song talks about one giving unconditional love to his lover. I had liked Dev's character from CB1 because they had shown him giving this kind of understanding and comfort to Radhika who had survived abuse all her life.

Just using these scenes made me once again appreciate Avinash's acting who is superb in using his eyes to emote. Wish they had given him such scenes in CB2. He would have done great just as he did in few episodes given to him during Rohan/Radhika's engagment or during Dada's death.

I have titled this VM "I will be Here for You"; the title is taken from the song by Steven Curtis Chapman. Following is the link to the lyrics and song.

Finally, here is the VM "I Will be Here for You"

Liked the way you linked the two VM's . Radhika would not have become a butterfly if Dev had not been there by her side giving her support and slowly giving her the confidence to come out of her shell. As for Avinash's acting,...he does know how to emote with his eyes and body language. Plus combined with very good voice modulation he would have done wonders in CB2 if he had been given the full scope to show his acting. Anyway what has happened has happened... the past cannot be changed but can only hope that he gets good opportunities to progress in life.

It is "kisi nazar ko tera intezzar aaj bhi hai" from the movie "Aitbaar". It suits Dev and Radhika of CB1 and so I decided to make it on them. This is a song from 1980s movie, so probably many are not aware of this gazal.

I have titled this VM "Waiting"; the title is taken from a poem by Robert Frost. There is also a beautiful poem "Waiting" by Rabindranath Tagore. But the context is different and hence I am not quoting it here.

Also there is a song "Right Here Waiting for You" by Richard Marx. It is a beautiful soft song and following is the link and some lyrics of the song.

Oceans apart, day after day
And I slowly go insane
I hear your voice, on the line
But it doesn't stop the pain
If I see you next to never
how can we say forever

Wherever you go, whatever you do
I will be right here, waiting for you
Whatever it takes, or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you

Following is the poem "Waiting" by Robert Frost

What things for dream there are when specter-like,
Moving amond tall haycocks lightly piled,
I enter alone upon the stubbled filed,
From which the laborers' voices late have died,
And in the antiphony of afterglow
And rising full moon, sit me down
Upon the full moon's side of the first haycock
And lose myself amid so many alike.

I dream upon the opposing lights of the hour,
Preventing shadow until the moon prevail;
I dream upon the nighthawks peopling heaven,
Or plunging headlong with fierce twang afar;
And on the bat's mute antics, who would seem
Dimly to have made out my secret place,
Only to lose it when he pirouettes,
On the last swallow's sweep; and on the rasp
In the abyss of odor and rustle at my back,
That, silenced by my advent, finds once more,
After an interval, his instrument,
And tries once--twice--and thrice if I be there;
And on the worn book of old-golden song
I brought not here to read, it seems, but hold
And freshen in this air of withering sweetness;
But on the memor of one absent, most,
For whom these lines when they shall greet her eye.

Following is the VM "Waiting". Hope it is not too slow for everyone. I have repeated couple of scenes, but I couldn't find any other appropriate scenes for those lyrics.

Angie if I am not mistaken the singer is Bhupender Singh. Heard this song after a long time. I think Aietbar is based on Hitchcock's Dial M for Murder.

Coming to your VM liked it a lot...the song was matched well with the scenes and the emotions depicted in the scenes. It was very poignant.

You are right about Tagore's waiting...the context there is different and it is a more philosophical poem. I liked Frost's poem that you hose for this VM but I loved the song by Richard Marx...

Misti, thanks.

I went and read "Vanessa" and it is beautiful. You posted it on December 2nd, 2009 and that is the reason I probably missed reading it. At that time, I had quit watching the show because I was outraged the way they showed that fire track. When you were compiling the index of your poem, I went back and read many of your poems from CB1. But somehow missed reading this one again. It is perfect for Radhika of CB1.

But I do remember your interpretation of Radhika as you were the one who started explaining her actions in terms of an abuse victim. Of course there were nonsensical scenes as you said throughout this process. But that theme of Radhika breaking free was there until the HM to Malaysia. I too consider that track as my favorite track of the show.

There were two scenes that stood out in my mind from April-May 2009 track. The jhula episodes were very poignant and I agree that Radhika broke because of how Devki behaved. She was until that time still had some hopes deep inside. She came to meet Dev in Delhi when she heard how broken he was and was willing to tell him the truth several times. She looked very happy when she had that grahpravesh with him under the veil. But then she freezes when she hears Amma's voice at the end. So reality hits her that this woman had taken away her rights. So that scene to me was a very good scene. Then I saw that earlier episode where Devki tears her apart when she was suspicious that Radhika met Dev secretively. So she was constantly trying to assure Devki that she hadn't told the truth to Dev and Radhika was emotionally abusing her and manipulating her. So Devki was as big a culprit as Amma.

Those original writers had really shown Radhika's evolution from a girl who had a confidence that it was her whom Dev loved to an unsure girl who felt unworthy of him. The second set of writers had made the show more ritualistic but they kept that characterization of Radhika who again started becoming confident and really blossomed due to Dev's love. The way she confronted Amma before the Malaysia trip was culmination of that confidence. They should have continued it when Vishaka came back to claim Dev on the basis of first fake marriage, but they regressed her character and also brought down Dev's character in order to glorify Amma and Vishaka. If only they had shown both Dev and Radhika confronting Shastri women for their crimes, it would have completed the show in a proper way the way top shows do.

In any case, this interpretation of Radhika was based on your analysis. I think that's why I thought of her as a butterfly. Vanessa is a beautiful poem and I am re-posting it from your thread. Hope you don't mind. I love the entire poem and the last four lines are especially good.

Vanessa (In Latin it means a butterfly) - By Misti

https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/post/26154258

Vanessa,

Sweet fair maiden,

Struggling to break the shackles that bind

And to fly into the path of freedom.

Slowly you try to regain faith,

Gently testing the limit of your strength,

Opening yourself to the whims of nature

To forge ahead, into the future.

Your cocoon, although safe,

Was a melancholy place,

With only yourself as your friend

And all the others, strangers.

Gentle Vanessa,

Strong as a butterfly,

The world is full of wonder

Awaiting to reveal to you its splendour.

Have faith,

For out of darkness comes light,

And from light comes belief

To fly away into sunrise.
