Hello @psarada, I live abroad and I know I am not part of TRP contributing audience. I am also very familiar with the issues regarding the dubbed versions of hit shows etc. as I have lots of family down South.
I have read the TOI article on Badalte Rishtey but it also got TRP of .5 to .9 and the maximum it went upto to was around 1.1 or 1.3 not more. So, tiff between PH and Channel could be on issues relating to TRP rising methods, which includes changing storyline or tracks...remember getting a hint of this when the news of show being axed hit the media. If I find links I will PM you. Bottomline is show got closed and it was channel's decision and creatives never got to tell their story completely.
Psarada, I am not dissing DABH or other TRP topping shows as carp, what I am saying is that I don't relate to them or find them good in terms of acting or storyline, but who am I to judge those who watch it regularly. Some of my own family follows these SP shows ardently, and that is how I saw a few episodes when I was in India for a vacation. They have hooked a section of the population and even IPK in its heyday could not get the kind of TRPs some of these shows have. Finding a connect does not mean great quality or content it means like someone here said before me that a desire to watch for whatever reason and may not necessarily be in terms of quality.
Another point is even with digitization, the measurement device may have improved but the sample size is still miniscule compared to the number of TV sets across the length and breadth of the country. There has been so much written on the number of TRP machines installed, where in the country have they been set up etc. It not a comprehensive measurement that is for sure. How else can one explain the popularity of IPK when the TRP of the show fluctuated so much.
I understand the importance of TRPs for shows, despite the questionable methodology, and the connect aspect of soaps but that does not automatically mean that these are quality products in terms of concepts, story writing, acting or execution. The same goes for so many BW movies which garner big BO returns and popularity, but content-wise there is much to be desired.
This is just my point of view and I am writing from the understanding of what I have seen and read so far, it's not meant to offend anyone... as I said before, who am I to judge anyone for their viewing choices, my only concern is what I choose to spend my time over.
