I do this to see Sanaya...not interested in any other Indian show. I watch it with an open mind and it is what it is...a LIGHT show. People with different mindsets in a family...in a 20 min episode there is only so much of a story that is going to unfold.

I am enjoying the show, though I mainly depend on the written updates since I do not understand Hindi. Anything I don't understand I google or ask my Indian colleagues at work.
I wil let the PH & Sony work on whatever they need to work on. Ultimately it is their decision. I will give my feedback to Sony on a regular basis.
Sanaya puts a smile on my face and that is all I care about.

Love your post , sanaya is lucky to have fans like you.

I still think that unless they are measuring directly from the STBs ... the system is flawed... and even if they were doing it . it would still be flawed as it would be the metros only...

So while TRPs are a necessary evil , accurate TRPs are the need of the day and that's what no one seems to agree on!

Ash, we have to start at somewhere to get to having accurate TRPs. In US and all everyone is on DTH(direct service with dish tv operators) and they have an accurate measurement of who watches which show for how much time. They even measure in the number of people who logged in for that show.

In India I think that is one step we are moving in from next month. It would be no longer which % watches which show rather how many people watch a particular show. And I personally have seen that with digitalization, the government have covered a huge area with STBs and they are now included in the count for TRPs. My extended family stays far from Bangalore and we all thought they would not be impacted by the digitalization but guess what they had a complete blackout and they got the TV back on only after they added a setup box. Not only that now you have to register yourself as a cable TV viewer and have to give a list of your favorite channels and that is passed on to I&B ministry. You must have seen these ads on your TV too. I have family friends who work in Information and Broadcasting ministry and I know the ministry even though is novice in terms of internet and other technology, try a lot to get quality programming in for India. I wouldn't just write off TRPs as flawed just because few good serials are not getting the expected numbers - though I agree we need to do a lot in that direction.

Hello @psarada, I live abroad and I know I am not part of TRP contributing audience. I am also very familiar with the issues regarding the dubbed versions of hit shows etc. as I have lots of family down South.

I have read the TOI article on Badalte Rishtey but it also got TRP of .5 to .9 and the maximum it went upto to was around 1.1 or 1.3 not more. So, tiff between PH and Channel could be on issues relating to TRP rising methods, which includes changing storyline or tracks...remember getting a hint of this when the news of show being axed hit the media. If I find links I will PM you. Bottomline is show got closed and it was channel's decision and creatives never got to tell their story completely.
Psarada, I am not dissing DABH or other TRP topping shows as carp, what I am saying is that I don't relate to them or find them good in terms of acting or storyline, but who am I to judge those who watch it regularly. Some of my own family follows these SP shows ardently, and that is how I saw a few episodes when I was in India for a vacation. They have hooked a section of the population and even IPK in its heyday could not get the kind of TRPs some of these shows have. Finding a connect does not mean great quality or content it means like someone here said before me that a desire to watch for whatever reason and may not necessarily be in terms of quality.
Another point is even with digitization, the measurement device may have improved but the sample size is still miniscule compared to the number of TV sets across the length and breadth of the country. There has been so much written on the number of TRP machines installed, where in the country have they been set up etc. It not a comprehensive measurement that is for sure. How else can one explain the popularity of IPK when the TRP of the show fluctuated so much.
I understand the importance of TRPs for shows, despite the questionable methodology, and the connect aspect of soaps but that does not automatically mean that these are quality products in terms of concepts, story writing, acting or execution. The same goes for so many BW movies which garner big BO returns and popularity, but content-wise there is much to be desired.
This is just my point of view and I am writing from the understanding of what I have seen and read so far, it's not meant to offend anyone... as I said before, who am I to judge anyone for their viewing choices, my only concern is what I choose to spend my time over.

Regarding Badalte, I think many people didn't quite understand the concept of the show. That may be because it was quite complicated, I myself have seen few episodes here and there and the twists and turns were very very unpredictable. If you miss couple of episodes, you would miss the direction the story is going. With Badalte, unfortunately the channel kept on changing the times of that show to different slots for some or other reason and maybe it lost that connect with the audience. So maybe the channel wanted the twists to be the same generic - the PH didn't agree. Who knows. But Badalte in its original form is a hit bengali serial - so maybe the bengali people could identify with the intelligent plot and could enjoy it while the hindi version didn't pan out well across the rural and mid India. This is my guess why Badalte couldn't gather the required TRPs.

With IPK if you see, the TRP of IPK topped the TRP of Ballika Vadhu when the serial was on its prime and this was with old 6000+ meters and even when Ballika was poised at a very great track of Anandi realizing that her marriage is a farce. So I would say that the reason IPK couldn't sustain the same TRPs throughout was because they couldn't sustain the same quality of storytelling going forward for whatever reason.

The reason I told about DABH here is because I have seen innumerable posts saying that at the same time slot DABH is raking in TRPs when it is nothing but regressive and what not. So many people(by that I don't mean you) on this forum are ready to use DABH as a punching bag but are not ready to accept that somewhere the show is telling something that is connecting to the huge rural audience in India. Or else rain or shine, IPL or non-IPL that show wouldn't be on top always and it has been on top for more than a year consistently.

@bold:- This is what I agree with you on 100%. We can choose what we watch and enjoy it. But I wouldn't go saying things are flawed outright. I too was in US for 13 yrs and moved back to India 3 yrs back and I work in a MNC. I have family in US who love these shows and we discuss with them. After coming back to India, I would say I have understood that even though we are very outright in dismissing the TRP system as flawed, it is not that outright bad - It is working at some level and that is why advertisers are insisting on having weekly data. We can watch what we like and move on.

@capricorn:- Bold is what my thinking is. Sony has 3 shows in pipeline, KBC, Saas Bina Sasural season 2 and some new show of Sangeetha Ghosh. It needs slot for KBC which may be 1 hr show, Last year KBC was only on weekend and it didn't gather much TRPs whereas when it was a weekday show, it was hard to beat it. So given that KBC is a 1 hr show, I would think that the Head Honchos at Sony are thinking on how to replace the shows so that they can make place for KBC in weekdays. I am also thinking that maybe the head honchos would move the show to 7:30PM slot and watch out the show for next couple of months. 7:30PM is not that prime time as compared to 9 and between Chanchan and KBC, the channel would obviously go with KBC.

I think that they might move CC to 7:30 PM, put KBC at 9-10 PM, & shut down Parvarish. Do you know if KBC promotions/ auditions have started? I know in the past, KBC has started around Sept so Sony has one more month to track CC & Parvarish.

Yes the promotions of KBC have started. I think they have got the people who qualify from the telephonic round too. I am guessing Aug mid to Aug end is when KBC would go on air. So may be they will move CC to 7:30 PM slot and close off Parvarrish. Or move Parvarrish to Anamika's slot as Anamika is out to end by August end.

I do not believe the rumors are true...the show is getting very interesting with each passing day.

However, if it turns out to be true then, I will follow Sanaya what ever channel she works for. I moved from Starplus to Sony and I will move form Sony to whatever channel her show is airing.

i watched Sony 11 years back in 2001-3. But since 2004 I have watched SP. But it took me less than one day to decide to cancel the full SP subscription we paid a fortune for 8 full years and get it changed to SET by next morning.
And wherever Sanaya Irani goes from here I will get that channel just like you will. Cz channels do not matter, she does wherever she goes she will take me to that channel too.

@sunara:- This I agree with you. Things may/may not work with CC for Sanaya but hopefully she will choose her next venture with care and we can enjoy a good show. So we can just wait and watch what happens next and enjoy till things last.
