For people who see limited shows they may think that the show they are watching is a good show and should get good TRPs but the point is the connect has to be there across a huge audience. And now regional channels are also coming up with good innovative concepts, reality TV shows and KBC kind of things. So 9 - 10 is a prime slot and unless the story is tight the TRPs are not going to come in and that is where ChanChan faltered. And that is the same precise reason SC is under scanner because the story was a absurd mess even with SLB at the helm of things.

Then how would one explain the shutting down of shows like Badalte Rishtey in 3 months, which was considered as a good show by many in IF as well as in other sites. It was considered to have a strong storyline and good actors yet it could not garner good TRPS. This is just one example there are so many more...like the YRF shows earlier.
Some of the top TRP shows right now do not intrigue me and they cannot boast of good acting either. From the little I know the storylines are also not spectacularly innovative or pushing any kind of envelope, yet they get TRPs and have clearly hooked a considerable number of viewers. So, how can one predict what clicks and why? Some of the regressive shows with multiple marriages and confused plotlines have ruled.
I take your point about execution and Chhanchhan had and continues to have a fair set of problems, but it is not worse than many more serials running on TV right now. My personal opinion is the show has been showing improvement over the past three weeks or so.
Anyway, the point I am trying to get at is that good shows and entertainment do not always translate into good TRPs and then what is "good" is subjective. Clearly I am not in synch with many out there who watch TRP leading shows. The TRP mechanism maybe measuring many things but quality cannot be determined by it.

Now there is the point. edit: Not measuring quality but desire to watch, period. The system gets that right.

@showviewer:- May I know where you are from - I mean India or abroad? I live in BLR and do you know that DABH is actually remade in as a Kannada serial and that serial is a top TRP getter in Kannada. The same story of a girl trying to become an IPS officer and the guy being a halwai and the marriage being a dokha marriage. Yes the exact show everyone thinks that is crap and have condemned to in this forum. And that serial is actually a huge hit with my Kannada speaking office friends. I have moved to another group 6 months back so I am no longer in touch with them to know if the story line is same or not but I think it is following the same story. I personally don't have lot of regional channels apart from few Kannada and Telugu mega channels and Kannada had KBC and Big Boss, both raked in huge TRPs. So yes the concept even though we hate it and treat it off as a bore must have stuck chord with audience and that is why it is working in regional languages. And on the same note do you know that dubbed telugu version of IPK is the highest TRP grosser serial for Telugu and it is so popular that Telugu TV artists and association did a protest at MaaTV to stop the telecast of the dubbed shows because they wanted to save their livelihood and the hungama went for a long time before the Chief minister intervened and now Maa TV is not going to dub any other "hit" serials in Telugu because they want to have people in Telugu grow up and make money in Telugu TV industry. So there is the proof that if the show has substance it would rake in TRPs even if it is a dubbed show.

Regarding Badalte, please read the TOI articles. The show was not yanked due to low TRPs, the show was removed because the channel and PH didn't agree on the way to take the story ahead. The PH felt that instead of compromising on the story line they could very well have the story end and so they opted to go off-air. I say it again, unless the concept clicks, TRPs don't come and one person can't drag in the TRPs. Sanaya's name got the initial TRPs but the story didn't hold the viewers in.

did u actually try out the promotion?
its a 2 way thing they r using ChanMan to promote the Sony online pages..

remember due to the global and youth fan base and almost cult fan following for the 1st time related to Indian TV.. the ball game is quite different.
Sony is a global network and Sanaya is the BEST vehicle they can have..

If they want visibility in the internet Sanaya alone can draw in 10 times more traffic than all of their shows put together.. this is not boasting but actual fact..

so i think this PH paying is usually true, but this time Sony is using CC couple to promote their FB page n twitter n stuff instead of the other way around as usual.. :)
