Salim was a fine shoter, jumped over stream in glee. When barely fifteen years of age he was never afraid of peril or danger.

In 1581 Prince Salim and Murad were placed in nominal charge of detachement of troops.

Salim lived in constant communication with Akbar. He was sent to welcome home the royal ladies of their return from Mecca.

Salim was past thirty before he had any difficulties or misfortunes even of his own making. All his life he suffered from weakness of will and resolution.

In 1585 he was induced by a royal servant to take a cup of wine to drinkj and drive away the fatigue of a hunting trip. He then became addicted totally to drinking.

Salim married Man Bai when he was barely fifteen. Her charms, intelligence and engaging manners won the ardent affection of Prince Salim (😕 where is Anakar not in his memories) Her suicide in 1604 plunged Salim into the deepest grief and did not eat for four days. Life ceased ot offer any attraction to his afflicted soul and it took him 2 years to be able to write or talk about her in words.

By 1586 Salim married Jagat Gosain and within ten years he married 16 others 😕 from various nationalities and religions his concubines (300.

Salim lived in close association with Akbar until early as 1591, when he displayed indecent eagerness to grasp the supreme power and roused his father serious suspicions.

He was very jealous of Abul Fazl position and his closeness to Akbar.

But why should he be jealous of Fazl?
He was the heir and son of Akbar.

During his revolt it was noted that " salim execution would have raised a storm among the royal ladies, with all his fawls he was the darling of his grandmother and his stepmother " the accomplished Sultan Salima Begam,. She was the " Khadijah of the age" Hmm when will Salima get this title in Jodha Akbar ( so far I have not even read anything about Rukaiya). She volunteered to go to Allahabad on a mission of peace and reconciliation. The prince marched out two stages to receive her with all honour and reverence. She employed all her talents and her influence to persuade him to return to the path of duty and loylty and promised to intercede for his pardon with Akbar and her consel prevailed. (where is his ammi jaan Rukaiya) ? cv claim they are following Salim memories what a shame!

From what I have read so far Salim felt the need to impressed his father Akbar and be the best but addiction, bad company did not help him. He saw his father way up there that no one can reach however Akbar loved him and was ready to let go and forgive all his follies. For this I admire Akbar for being a wonderful father to him though he might have his on demons to deal with at time.

In brief, AF was very very close to Akbar and in fact its said that Akbar mourned more at AF death than his own sons. Such was the association between AF and Akbar. Salim by now had started revolting against Akbar and AF was with Akbar
