From what I have read so far Salim felt the need to impressed his father Akbar and be the best but addiction, bad company did not help him. He saw his father way up there that no one can reach however Akbar loved him and was ready to let go and forgive all his follies. For this I admire Akbar for being a wonderful father to him though he might have his on demons to deal with at time.

A little info on MUZ " No marriage in mediaeval Indian history was, politically, so happy and fruitful, as the one contracted by Akbar with the daughter of Raja Bhar Mal of Amber in January 1562. It symbolized the dawn of new era in Indian politics it gave the country a line of remarkable sovereigns, it secured to four generations of Mughal emperors the services of some of the greatest captains and diplomats that medieval India, produced.
Maryam _ Uz- Zamani of Rajput decent possessed a strong, sinewy frame from which Salim inherited a robust constitution, a handsome face and seldom fell ill.
Salim wrote an apology for his recent conduct. He desired the court astrologers to fix and hour for his meeting with his father but Akbar replied that all the hours were equally auspicious for an meeting with him in harmony and concord.
As Akbar entered his mother apartment she rose with Salima Begam and she threw Salim at his feet. The affectionate father raised him in his arms and was and later proclaimed as heir-apparent after Akabr turban was place on his head.
He was sent away to war but in midway fear of failure he did not go and kept making excuses.
After his revolt and assemble of army to fight his father and the death of grandmother he came back to the Palace. He was received well. Akbar took him aside in private and reprimanded him for wine and bad company that has deranged him and confined him for 10 days for treatment and was deprived of opium and wine. He passed the 10days in disgrace and humiliation.
His mother, stepmothers, and sisters visited and consoled him and use their powers on Akbar on his behalf.
Akbar treated him as if nothing had passed between them and this reconciliation was like a soothing balm to Akbar;s lacerated heart before he died.
Will be back with more after reading.
