Yes, the movie was filled with cliches but was nevertheless a good one-time watch. She did play the role beautifully...but I am not sure that this portrayal deserved the National Award. 😳 i might be wrong since I haven't watched all the movies last year including regional cinema...but still the National Award? I remember being absolutely baffled and surprised when Saif ALI Khan bagged the National Award for "Hum Tum". Has anyone seen that movie?😆

I know, tum hoti yahaan, toh I'd have invited you over for ice-cream and movie... but kya karoon, I don't have any desi friends in my current social circle - and what I meant is that I can't possibly invite European friends to come and watch this movie. It is way too cliche-filled for that. I mean, I don't want my friends here to think that girls in India only just serve one purpose (viz. getting married). I don't want them to read subtitles in which her estranged fiance speaks trash about foreigners. I don't want them to see the Japanese character being parodied to such silliness in our movies. I don't want them to think that the Indian perception of European women is that they are easy (Vijaylakshmi lip-to-lip kiss karti hai, has sex with strangers, shaadi ke pehley, etc... Why didn't they find such a complete desi character too?)

In any case, people think that Bollywood is just kitsch - yeh film dekh kar they'll be convinced even more... You see what I am saying?

But just for the record - in spite of these cliches - I did quite enjoy the movie. 😃

I've never seen her in any other movie, so I don't know how much real acting went into the role... What I am saying is: for instance, the mannerisms of the character of Phoebe in Friends was very similar to Lisa Kudrow's real life manner; while the woman who played the character of Janice also appeared in Seinfeld and there, she was completely normal and nonirritating. So, if you ask me - Lisa is not really THAT great an actor sure, she is adorable and whatever), but in terms of acting, she didn't really do THAT good a job in Friends...

Likewise for Kangana - if only I knew how wide the range of her acting skills are, I'd have been able to judge her better...

The National Awards are a mockery. Hum Tum was rubbish and it must be the politics behind the awards that SA Khan was even considered, let aside awarded the honour... 🤢
