AU is...?

Since my state school is so good, I don't even know if I would accept in the really tiny chance that Stanford would accept me.

I guess- I feel like once you've hit the major requirements, GPA, extracurriculars and all- it's a coin toss for who gets into Ivies. I know a guy who had a 36 on the ACT, 4.0 GPA, did every club, wrote amazing essays- and didn't get into a single Ivy.

I'll be disappointed if I don't get in, but really only for pride reasons.

American university. It's one of top ten for studying International Relations. I wanted to get into Yale but I was wait listed from there too. I got rejected from Columbia and I had a HS scholarship for two years from Columbia Law school. Such irony!

I had all the things needed to get in to but hey at least it wasn't a rejection.

Choti, I agree - you can have some of the best grades, do really well on SAT's/ACT, be really active but not get into some of the best schools.

And then it sucks when you know people with not as great grades/scores make it and you don't - lol when I was in high school, this one very laid back surfer guy got into this really good school (he was an AMAZING storyteller, so I'm sure his personal statement was to kill for), and these two girls were burning in jealousy because they thought they deserved it more😆 Sometimes, it's just the luck of the draw!

Whatever the case, I'm sure you will excel at your subject regardless of what school you end up going to.

How long did it take you to apply to 30 schools??

At least you are going to school that has a great program for your intended majors.

Choti and Areeba - you two are lucky that already know what you want to major in!

It does suck, and it's incredibly frustrating.
You know, I love to write- but writing these stupid personal statements are perhaps the hardest pieces I've ever had to write. It's completely different when someone is judging you based on 650 words that you write about yourself. And some of the topics- it's just so hard to pinpoint one moment where I felt "intellectual vitality", or something that I feel is undervalued in my life.

People think that writing long essays are impressive, and they are- but I would argue that writing a succinct piece is SO much harder. Uff.

Ooh! How do you like AU? Once you get to the top schools, they all offer essentially the same level of academics.

Culture differences have always amused me- when my counselor asked if I was planning to go to college, i was taken aback. Growing up Indian with a professor for a father made it so that college was never an "option"- it was required 😆

Took me about three months to apply to all the universities and then a month to full out the financial aid.

AU is really great. Washington DC isn't as far from NYC so that's a good thing. The campus is suburban mostly since the DC urban atmosphere doesn't match up much to the urban areas of NY.

The buildings are mostly modern and stone so it's easy to adjust. I remember last hear when I went to Yale Young Global Scholars, it was really hard to adjust in first week because of the gothic architecture even though I totally loved it but it felt a little too backward.

I actually love gothic architecture! I don't particularly have a preference for how a campus looks, as long as it's pretty 😆 I'm rather partial to smaller towns though- the city I live in isn't too big, isn't too small. It's perfect! 😆

What made you choose IR as your major?

while olive gothic architecture and everything related to goth, after growing up on modern landscape and shifting to Yale for a summer was hard in terms of environment.

I found it easier to adjust at Columbia meanwhile.

My fathers a renown journalist and I took up from him for my liking of current affairs. Although I find myself much more inclined towards social issues. IR helps find grounds within these fields at least for first four years.

Then I can decide wether to go into international law or representative.

Your father is a renowned journalist? That makes me wonder if I've seen him or read him! I obsessively read the news- My event in public speaking requires me to keep up and follow it closely, so I read like a crazy person. I have at least 20 news apps on my phone- when something happens, it doesn't stop vibrating 😆
