How will the visitors approach this match? India's famed batting line-up hasn't lived up to the expectations. Gill hasn't fired in both the matches, Kohli is yet to get off the mark, Rohit scored 73 in Adelaide but Hazlewood was all over him in both the ODIs. While Axar and Shreyas Iyer showed some promise, they have failed to convert their starts. Axar and Washington Sundar did keep it tight for a while in the previous match but India haven't managed to put the Aussies under pressure for a considerable period of time in this series. Their main idea to omit Kuldeep Yadav was to strengthen their batting depth. Will they reassess that strategy? Can 23-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal get into the XI? Answers coming your way shortly.

Shubman Gill: We would have bowled first. Have a target on the total and then try to chase down, I think we got what we wanted. We had just enough runs (in the last game) on the board and a couple of chances coming our way which we couldn't take. That happens in the game of cricket, you've got to take your chances. The game was going on pretty even till about the 40th over. In the end, they played well. Hopefully this game is going to be a good one for us. Two changes. Kuldeep and Prasidh come in for Arshdeep and Reddy.

Mitchell Marsh: We are gonna bat first. Seems like a really nice wicket. It's going to be a beautiful day here at the SCG. The way the young guys stoop up towards the back end, it's great signs for our team. Today's a great opportunity to go 3-0 up in the series. Cooper is a calm character and he played terrifically last game. Nathan Ellis is back in for Xavier Bartlett.

Decent turnout at the SCG and it looks like there are more supporters for the visitors, which isn't a surprise. Australia will be batting first for the first time this series. The only other time Mitchell Marsh opted to bat first (27 matches as captain), Australia scored 431/2 (vs SA, Mackay, Aug 2024). The Aussies love playing at this venue - they have won eight of their last nine ODIs at the SCG and each of these nine matches were won by the side batting first. And they've made just one change to their XI which suggests that they're keen to bag the series 3-0. Can India avoid the whitewash? The Indian players disperse from the huddle and in walk the dangerous opening pair of Australia. Siraj has the new ball in his hand and he'll start from over the wicket with two slips in place...

False start for Siraj who runs in and completes his action but doesn't deliver the ball. He isn't too happy with the landing area. Right, here we go...

Australia have won the toss and have opted to bat

Pitch Report | Parthiv Patel and Shane Watson: "The one thing you know about this square, it is rock hard, and this pitch is really hard. When the pitch is hard, there'll be a few cracks here in SCG. You can see there are cracks running down, vertically down the track, so the quicks will be looking at this, trying to line a few up. And there is some green live grass as well, so that means with these two brand new balls, there should be a little bit of movement. But the one thing about SCG is that the ball goes through nicely, so there's a lot of value for your shots here, which makes it a high-sporting ground. Historically, it's a high-scoring ground. The ball goes through really well. This could be the best batting pitch of the series so far. We are in for a very good contest today."
