Ever since the beginning of this track, the one where Pari teams up with Noyna has never set well with me.
Unfortunately a line today uttered by Pari made me want to post this topic.
In a country like ours, despite the fact that we are officially the most populous country on the planet atm and will likely stay so for the next couple of decades, there are still so many people who struggle with fertility issues - both men and women. Those able to afford expensive treatments might opt for them - repeatedly if needed - but there’s not a guarantee of the success of the same regardless of the cost of the treatment and the hospital/clinic opted for, the best specialists possible in the field.
Adoption, however difficult as a process legally in the country, is however an option for those couples and in some cases, even single individuals to experience parenthood. It is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences a human being can have that can help the life of another person - a little human. It has the power to alter the lives of every individual involved.
Yet today Pari, an adopted child of Tulsi’s is not only actively plotting against her to break her marriage by joining forces with another woman, she’s hoping to mock her mother and kick her while she’s down once the prospect of her father cheating on her mother is confirmed.
Pari states tonight that she will be waiting to offer Tulsi tissues when that day comes, as she is her daughter after all, albeit not one born to her, but she’s a daughter nonetheless.
All this for not being a liar in the court and now, allegedly, denying Pari the right to own and sell an ancestral property that she has no rights over in the first place. Had Mihir foolishly not said what he did about it and later even called Karan to fly over to India with Parth with the papers of the said property, she would’ve perhaps never even known about its existence.
What’s more baffling is Mihir is now onboard the idea of Tulsi opening a school in the same premises per Baa’s wishes made clear in that letter but not for a moment did he think that if Baa willed the same property to Parth in the first place and had that been still her wish; wouldn’t that have also been as valid as the desire to have a school there?
How is it that Mihir can now follow the wishes of a long since passed grandmother expressed in a letter but he was alright with taking the property away from Parth when that too was a decision of Baa’s? How can someone perform these mental gymnastics? How do they even work? If Baa’s wish to have a school in that place was accepted then so should have been her choice to leave the place to Parth, her great-great grandson.
Mihir gave Pari the idea that he could change what was inherited by one of his grandchildren to give it to her … and now that Tulsi is the one entrusted with the said property, Pari has become even more vindictive and awful.
What is the purpose of this track, I don’t know; but the message it sends out is so not one that we need in today’s society - one that says adopted children are bad and can turn against you. Yes, we have Angad and Rithvik who are similarly adopted, who are decent children by all accounts, but the one focused on is Pari, and if human beings have a knack for anything - it’s focusing on the negative more than the positive. Do a thousand good things and make one mistake, and people will never let you live down that one mistake while they ignore all the good done by you.
Here again, Angad and Rithvik’s goodness will not make as much of an impact on the psyche of a society already struggling with the consequences of having a child of one’s own blood as much as Pari’s selfishness and wickedness will make.
Yes, Tulsi also had a rotten bad apple of a son who was born of her own womb too, one she shot dead herself; but in his case not one person in the audience had any sympathy for the said son, no one was under the illusion of him being a nice or decent person from the onset. There was no denial nor any doubt that Tulsi would finally fail in making this one son of hers mend his ways. Where she succeeded with Gautam and Karan, she wouldn’t with Ansh because at their core Gautam and Karan were never completely lost causes. Gautam even at his worst showed hope when he portrayed he was capable of love and caring when we saw him with Karishma, the cousin he grew up believing to be a sister and understanding her pain and suffering as he too suffered similarly.
Karan for all his anti-Virani acts and hatred of Mihir initially, never once did try to harm any of the members of the family on an individual level. He was respectful of Tulsi and all the elders of the family. Once they realised he was misguided and he was made aware of the truth of the past, he too mended his ways. There were never any doubts about Karan reforming either because he was shown to care for Saahil, well behaved with Baa and all the elders. He only ever cared about being acknowledged by Mihir and getting his rightful place as his son.
With Pari, there’s nothing so far, similar to Ansh, which shows even the slightest hint of a good person hiding underneath all that misguided and arrogant girl.
The worst part is - the emphasis on her being an adoptive child would set a bad example even as the show only recently promoted the idea of caring for would-be mothers, their children not just while she’s pregnant but once the child is born and grows older to six years of age.
The contradiction is baffling….and leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.
