Wow good to see a lot of activity here 😊. Sorry for being away, it did take quite a bit of digging to get the link 😳

HAHK completed 20 years earlier this month!

I remember the craze for this film. I was 5 when it released. I remember listening to its songs and Madhuri posters in beauty parlours (used to accompany aunt).

Girls in school kept singing Maiye ni maiye, Didi tera devar deewana for years even after its release.

It was shown on Diwali in I guess 1997. We stayed up till 2 AM to watch it!

I still like it for family values and being a clean film.

I love how the biggest TV actress of that time, Renuka Shahane was also in it!😊

I also remember that purple outfit becoming all the rage and suddenly the backless choli became totally "acceptable" at family events 😆! And it continues till date 😛

But Renuka's character had to die in it which was the only damper 😭. I somehow find I'm not able to watch after that point because then suddenly all the joy and laughter seemed extinguished in a way.

But yeah HAHK did start the trend of family friendly movies, though didn't catch this in theaters, it was after this one when we all started taking an interest in going for Hindi films.

Here is the first episode if anyone wants to watch it, I highly recommend it, it shows that politics has not changed one bit, but its fun to watch! lol

I've heard a lot about this show. Thanks for sharing the link, will definitely catch up on it one of these days 😊

(Found on Tanqeed.com. Unmatched craze! Can any show boast of such mania? Hell no! 😉 Real legends deserved all awards. People say TV became huge post K series. Nope. Sagars and Chopras made it huge in 80s itself. Today's craze is not even half of what was back then. That was real not media made!)

It would have come across as a pretty shocking thing back then, that a TV show kept people away from the movies which was something Indians were crazy about 😆

But it's interesting to see the list of the movies that year with QSQT (one of my favorites ) at the top, even though Shahenshah raked in more money.

The new one on NDTV Imagine never took off and flopped after leap. Whereas this one is a classic that won 5 Uptron Awards, the highest honour for TV back then.

One thing today's shows lack is attention to detail and authentic casting. Plus they drag a lot in this daily format. Too much glamour or special effects. No feel of the past or history.

Personally I was a big fan of the new one on Imagine 😊, preferred that show over the other drivel that was being shown anyways. As for flop or not, I don't know but it wouldn't have been for nothing that an active movement was started by fans even with the actors joining in to bring it back on to some other channel when Imagine shut down 🤔. Things were almost finalized as well for it to come on Sony only for everything to fall apart in the end . I somehow believe the show would have worked if shown on a more popular channel.

But will definitely be giving this Chanakya a look, being a big fan of the history of that period.

Wholeheartedly agree with your point of today's shows not putting in any effort into attention to detail, it's more of a "chalega" attitude 🤔

When I remember the 90s, I cannot do so without remembering the iconic Robin Williams, who passed away 2 weeks ago .

As a kid the only English movies we were allowed to watch were his, and what childhood defining movies they were: Mrs. Doubtfire, Aladdin, Jumanji and my all-time favorite movie Dead Poets Society 😭. Never felt this bad at the death of a celebrity. It's like a part of my childhood was erased. But it's great to see the impression he made on the lives and minds of many.

Another legendary figure, Lord Richard Attenborough also passed away 2-3 days ago. Though he made the epic, Gandhi, the child in me remembers him more as Santa Claus in Miracle on 34th Street and of course another huge favorite, Jurassic Park.

Hi Guys. 😃
Sorry i couldn't contribute anything but i have read every page.
But currently Star utsav has started a show that was a huge rage during childhood. 😃
Shaka Laka Boom Boom. The magic pencil grew like anything in those days. I know it started in 2000 but i thought i will still share it. 😆

What an iconic show. I still remember how i left everything to watch this show. 😃

Shahenshah is on 2nd spot due to budget. Otherwise it was huge. The biggest opener of its time. It's said Amitabh Bachchan craze was such that police had to be called to control crowds outside ticket counters. Crowds caused traffic jams!
Old Chanakya is indeed worth a watch.

Zephyr I agree on all actors except Richard Attenborough. I didn't like casting of a Holly actor for Gandhi role.

@sscomp3

So they got new TV just to watch MB?😊

I have read a lot about madness created by these shows. Real life coming to a halt just for these shows!

Yeah HAHK made backless choli acceptable.😆

I love Flop Show!😊

2 years ago they had started showing it again on DD 1. I watched every bit of it. Jaspal Bhatti, his wife, Vivek Shauq and other actors were just awesome!

With such a straight face they would enact funniest scenes.

The humour was clean and satire was briiliant!👏

I was devastated when Bhatti saab died suddenly in that car accident. 😕 Even Vivek Shauq was too young to die.
