I remember the craze for this film. I was 5 when it released. I remember listening to its songs and Madhuri posters in beauty parlours (used to accompany aunt).

Girls in school kept singing Maiye ni maiye, Didi tera devar deewana for years even after its release.

It was shown on Diwali in I guess 1997. We stayed up till 2 AM to watch it!

I still like it for family values and being a clean film.

I love how the biggest TV actress of that time, Renuka Shahane was also in it!😊

HI Anu, thanks for the invite! nice CC you have going here!

HAHK was the first movie I had ever gone out to see in the theaters, because my parents were not fond of the movies that came out in that time and this was the first one that was worth watching!
I remember everyone was listening to the songs and dancing to them at functions and all! 😳😆

You described it perfectly. No offense but I just laugh at the boys who are in MB now. They don't even look men enough to play these great warriors. And today's fans are...strange. Feeling sympathy for even men like Dushasan and Duryodhan and calling them Dushy and Dury so lovingly. 😲
Star is a huge network. They will buy all awards for their show. Already gave it lots of their own in house awards SPA.

Thanks to daily format and habit of taking feedback from fans, everyone ruins shows.

Maybe fans and today's audience are also to blame for sensationalism and dependence on OTT glamour. These people are shallow enough to say they don't care about history or mythology and only want "entertainment" (God knows what entertainment is!).

Anyway, let's discuss other shows!

Ramanand Sagar's Sri Krishna was another favorite and Sunday morning staple.

My favorite track from that show was Krishna and Sudama friendship. I still remember the episode when Sudama meets Krishna (as grown ups). What an emotional reunion it was!

Today is Sunday. I swear for years Sunday no longer feels like Sunday.😕 I miss waking up just before Chandrakanta, eating special pakoras made by mom as we watched our fav shows, then taking headbath, watching Jungle book, going out to play outside in sunshine. Every Sunday we used to go to a temple in suburbs, there were lush gardens there. I and my brother used to play there also. Then have snacks at a restaurant while returning home. Go to nani's house and she used to make delicacies for us. Make believe games and trying to imitate war scenes from shows we had watched with toy swords and masks. Come back home, play outside in evening with friends again.
Then parents would remind us about homework and school. We used to be in vacation mode on Sunday.

Last minute rush to complete homework and arrange books and bag for school next day.
Then dinner and Surabhi at night.
10 PM meant bedtime.

Nobody stayed up after 10. Not even elders.

Nowadays the fun is no longer there. Sunday is like any other day. No special shows on TV. No fun with family. No friends outside.

Parks seem deserted these days. Guess all remain inside stuck to mobiles, computers, laptops, tabs, TV.

Play and discussion among kids and youth are so shallow now. Devoid of any innocence or imagination.

Sab kuch gaya...😭

you are so right! I watched SP MB for a few months, I kept getting upset at the interpretation of the great katha! I left the show when I had enough, when Draupadi was married to Pandavas, I couldnt believe that they called her marriage adharma! I was sooo angry, its so hypocritical, all the royal men had more than one wife there and it was ok, but when she did that its wrong, they made it like polyandry was unheard of at that time, thats not true, there were marriages like her!

you are also right that these days people are to busy with technology (ironically im doing just that right now) to bother to find out how their family and friends doing! I remember there was a gettogether at my home and all most of the kids were on their mobiles! I was so angry, of course I taunted their parents afterwords and I was good! 😆

You are right, there is no other intro music so iconic as this one. Still get goosebumps listening to it

Oh a bit of trivia...did you know that originally it was Juhi Chawla who was roped in to play Draupadi? But because production got delayed for many years and her blossoming movie career they had to cast Rupa instead.

I watched that video a long time back, it was so sad to watch it, I felt so sad afterwards! Those men and women who were in BRC's MB are legends, no one can do what they did, they will always be the best MB characters!!

I dont know how many of you saw Chanakya (1991-92 I think) - it was 46 episodes long, but it was really good, its available on YT. Its all political, and you really have to think whats going to happen next, everyone is playing a game and its every man for himself!

Here is the first episode if anyone wants to watch it, I highly recommend it, it shows that politics has not changed one bit, but its fun to watch! lol

Unprecedented!😎 Scan of an old issue of Film Information trade journal, that describes how telecast of BRC Mahabharat affected BO collections of movies on Sundays in 1988!

(Found on Tanqeed.com. Unmatched craze! Can any show boast of such mania? Hell no! 😉 Real legends deserved all awards. People say TV became huge post K series. Nope. Sagars and Chopras made it huge in 80s itself. Today's craze is not even half of what was back then. That was real not media made!)

Zephyr29 and Rati posted on HAHK!😊
Yeah it changed the way people celebrated weddings and family functions. Rituals began to be shown on TV and movies also. DDLJ is also partly inspired by HAHK. Serials like Kahani Ghsr Ghar ki and Kyunki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi and currently Yeh Rishta Kya kehlata hai are all inspired by HAHK and HSSH by Sooraj Barjatya.

This is the only film that brought families to theatre.

@Rati

I remember Chanakya! The actor was mind blowing! My bhua also says Chanakya was the best show ever. It didn't look like acting at all! That is how naturally actors slipped in their roles.😊

Chanakya is very popular online and still its DVD sells like hot cakes at shops across India. Doordarshan started airing it again along with Byomkesh Bakshi and Buniyaad to step up viewership.
The new one on NDTV Imagine never took off and flopped after leap. Whereas this one is a classic that won 5 Uptron Awards, the highest honour for TV back then.

One thing today's shows lack is attention to detail and authentic casting. Plus they drag a lot in this daily format. Too much glamour or special effects. No feel of the past or history.
