A/N: The next part will be up tomorrow. It's kind of short but I felt that everything would be too much to take in at once so I have divided it into three parts. Show me love, people, and I will love you forever, I swear. ;) Please comment and like this work because they really make me feel like my hard work has paid off.
Chapter 13 (Part 1)
"Hey," Swayam called quietly from over the door. Sharon was sitting on the floor with her knees pulled to her chest, while Rey went snoring on the bed. Sharon looked up and smiled at Swayam who joined her on the floor, crossing his legs.
"He really snores like a tractor, doesn't he?" he commented, making Sharon give out a breathy wet laughter as she nodded her head. But that didn't last for long, soon everything was back to the silence.
Peeking a glance at her, Swayam said, "So... Tani told me what happened..."
"Yeah, it's... it's... sad...," Sharon mused, "but... kind of necessary, don't you think?"
Swayam seemed taken aback, "What?"
Shuffling to face him, Sharon said, "Don't you think it was long overdue? I mean it's been a long time... and to end something so huge with nothing substantial would have been... I don't know... disappointing?"
"Yeah, and having your heart broken is very satisfying," Swayam remarked dryly. Sharon chuckled and replied, "Not what I meant. I meant... instead of having a series of could have's it's better to get it cleared once and for all."
Swayam nodded, looking impressed. "You know, the Sharon I knew would have probably been down kicking my little sister's ass."
"What, did you like her better?" Sharon smirked.
He studied her with revelation in his eyes, "Nah... I can't say that. To be honest, that girl was pretty hot to a nineteen year old. For someone on the other side of twenties... this one's much better."
"You sound ancient," she commented, ignoring the blush riding up her face. She hoped she could pass it off as reddening due to cold.
Silence fell on them, and Sharon felt a need to fill the gap because they were in a room together finally, after four days of the tour and they were alone... well, almost, considering Rey was kind of dead to the world and if Sharon knew anything about drunk Rey, it was that he slept like a baby. Sharon felt a little guilty for feeling a sudden tension in the air, she was probably imagining it because of the alcohol in her veins and being sexually frustrated. Her best friend had just had his heart broken and the only thing Sharon wanted to do right then was touch Swayam in any way possible. WRONG! Wrong, wrong, wrong.
Sharon wrapped her arms tightly around her knee, racking her head for some conversation starter. "So," Sharon broke the silence, grabbing Swayam's attention, "what has your story been? Relationship-wise," she added on noticing him scrunch his eyebrows in confusion.
"Oh."
"You know, any girl you're interested in?" Sharon elaborated, hoping she didn't sound too nosy but she really wanted to know.
"Erm," Swayam chuckled, "yeah... there was," Sharon's heart sank but the was didn't go unnoticed either. "Back while I was doing MBA, there was this girl... she was... she was perfect. You know, everything you could wish for in an ideal match. She was intelligent, sometimes really sweet, she was gorgeous and she could really grab anyone's attention. She was an amazing orator and a really amazing," Swayam abruptly stopped and Sharon noticed Swayam blushing.
"What?" Sharon asked, intrigued.
"Er... nothing," he shook his head frantically.
"Tell me," Sharon pressed, "amazing what?"
"Er... listener," Swayam supplied, rather weakly.
Sharon narrowed her eyes. "Listener," Swayam nodded, "that's what you were hesitating to say. What do you take me for? You are really insulting me by just not saying the truth."
"Really, it's stupid, drop it," Swayam mumbled, looking uneasy. Well Sharon never cared if she made someone uneasy so why start now.
"Come on, we are friends, we can talk," Sharon persisted, "what was she amazing in bed?"
"What?" Swayam whipped his head in her direction, "No, that's not what I was going to say. I was about to say she was an amazing... amazing kisser."
"Oh," Sharon pressed her hand on her mouth trying to muffle the giggle leaving her mouth. "Were you trying to hide that? You're such a baby."
Swayam actually sulked at that. "Whatever," he mumbled.
It took at least a couple of minutes for her laughter to die down but when it did, she asked the next thing that had pressing on her head. "If she was so amazing... why did you break up with her?"
Swayam shrugged, "She was a little condescending. It took me a while to actually notice it, maybe because I was just so whipped by her. I told you she could really grab attention. But... you know, she had an engineering degree and I realised she looked down upon me because I had a commerce degree. For her it was, like, not a subject intelligent people would choose."
"That's horrible," Sharon exclaimed, feeling anger shoot down her skin.
"Yeah, so I told her take her opinion and leave," he replied. "I mean, once the initial haze of first love was gone, I could actually see it all. Our breakup wasn't all that difficult on me. Actually, now that I think about it, I was not really into her either."
"What?" Sharon frowned. "Why would you date her in that case?"
Swayam shrugged, "She was beautiful, had a smart mouth... and I was done being the guy who believed in true love and happy endings. I decided to take a shot, didn't work."
"Any more?" Sharon asked after a beat of silence. "I mean after her." She knew she was being nosy now, well she was drunk and stupid so sue her.
"No... unless you count the hooker my friends bought me on my twenty-third birthday."
"What?" Sharon jumped. Too much information, too too TOO much information.
Swayam merely laughed though, "Yeah, said it was high time I lost my virginity. It was just after I broke up with Garima."
"Did you?"
"They got me, like, piss drunk and I was about to almost get it on. I remember thinking screw it but... I hadn't even got to taking my belt off when I puked all over and passed out," Sharon disturbingly noticed Swayam not flinch a single time while narrating this.
"So are you...?" Sharon mused loudly.
"Virgin? Nah... I had already done it with Garima. I just never told my friends. You know, sometimes, guys are too insensitive. They would want to know everything and sometimes, you know, they talk about women as if they are objects for your pleasure, not humans. They don't mean to do that but you know... and I decided it was better to endure listening to them nag me about not having sex than reveal everything."
"You are revealing quite a lot to me," Sharon murmured.
"Oh, am I?" Swayam sat up bolt upright, "I am so sorry. I just, I was down in the other guys' room and we had a couple of vodka shots. Don't worry," he hastily added, on noticing alarm on Sharon's face, "not much to get us hungover though."
"Good."
"Yeah..." Swayam agreed. "So tell me. What about you?"
Sharon shrugged shaking her shoulders. "I guess you remember I had a boyfriend. You know, second year of college. After that, kind of lost interest in dating. I don't have anything interesting to say. It's quite bleak considering your dating history."
Swayam didn't say anything for the next couple of minutes, but the next time he glanced back at Sharon, there was something that looked a lot like determination. But that didn't stop him from hesitating when he asked, "Er... can I... can I ask you something?"
Sharon shrugged her shoulders in response so he continued, "You know what I was thinking? I don't understand... you knew Rey still had feelings for Tani... so why did you agree to marry each other. When you knew he didn't love you in that way?"
Sharon smiled, "It's a long, complicated story."
"I have a lot of time, I am on vacation," Swayam replied smugly.
