Radhagupta is another pillar for long Mauryan regime...i liked his entry...Helena is excellent. .she is more sensible in all sense...hope she is not getting envious of Nandini ,...Durdhara Is good...i like the kingly Chandragupta in story...But personally This Nandini is very insane...becauseShe does not know, that her interactions with arjun,is going to land her in trouble..Anyway,she should not mingle freely with Arjun...its not good on her part to be insensitive. May be she does this to provoke Chandragupta..had I been real Avantika, her mother.. I could have given whiplashes for her carelessness. ...Perhaps May be this quality of Nandini adds flavor to the story...I really like this turning point..
Radhagupt had to come because he went on to become the Prime Minister of Ashok, CGM's grandson. But since he wasn't too old at that time as well, and he served as an advisor and Minister during Bindusaar's time as well, he couldn't be very old now. So I have shown him a bit young during CGM's time.
Helena is jealous and always was about Nandini. But the importance and impartial manner in which CGM treats her makes her use her potential and capabilities in a positive direction, she is not desperate that she is a non-entity and outsider forever in her husband's life and in Patliputra. It is this sense of acceptance and being made to feel one of their own which makes Helena sensible, wise and to live up to her Patrani status though she does have occasional insecurities with Nandini.
Nandini is thoughtless. It is as simple as that. She never thinks before she speaks or acts. She listens exclusively to her heart over her brain. She is a young, immature and pampered princess. That is the way she remains even after her marriage. She is eighteen and behaves her age. She makes faux-pas, she makes errors of judgement, she is thoughtless about her words and actions. She never had to worry for anything. First she had her father, now she has her husband to care for her, love her, and complement whatever she is lacking or falling behind in.
Despite their arguments and occasional misunderstandings, CGM loves her the way she is with all her flaws and good aspects. As far as her remarks about her Pitha Maharaj or remarks which occasionally rub CGM the wrong way by reminding him about his troubled childhood, she still doesn't have the mental bandwidth to guage what all CGM must have faced. She is and has always been cared for, pampered, and cocooned from reality.
She will learn from her mistakes. She is however not doing anything purposefully. Moora seems to have made a miscalculation in entrusting her with the job. Though she seems to have done whatever Moora expected her to do regarding getting to know Arjun or regarding her misgivings about the alliance for Chaaya seeing that the groom has such a major condition which makes him unsuitable in the eyes of any mother for her daughter. But the way she sets about doing it is highly suspicious to an observer as astute and observant about the things around him as CGM. If this thing wasn't kept a secret, CGM wouldn't have taken it amiss.
Similarly, he would have been mentally prepared how to face the politicization of Chaaya's life that is going to happen now because of Swaralika's brainwashing. If he knew that earlier itself, he would have given a fitting reply to it. So this silence and hiding vital details with mistaken good intentions will cost the Magadh side a lot. Moora and Nandini are equally to blame for this. And finally, even CGM needed to realize that he was unconsciously getting affected and vulnerable where Nandini was concerned in a situation that is not too dangerous. This loss in a friendly duel would be a wake-up call for him. He wouldn't repeat the same mistakes in an actual war.
