Hello Aunty,

Hope you are doing well. Nice to see you rocking CN forum with ur beautiful writing!👏

First of all, My sincere apologies for not replying so far. My current project work is keeping me busy leaving little time for IF. 😭 Mobile unfriendly IF is not helping my cause either. But I will try my best to be regular here on! 😃
Aunty, I am pleasantly surprised by your daily episode analysis 😃considering your health condition, I thought u wud do select episode analysis...but Aunty is Aunty. Nothing can deter her spirit, determination & hard work!👏

Thank you so much...We can't have enough of you & Rajat !!! 😳

Aunty, I have no words to describe the myriad of emotions I felt while reading your beautiful take on Rajat's Chandragupt & Chandra Nandni...You are truly a reader's delight !!!⭐️

Loved Power point Presentation, The arc of a character & A Houdini act in particular. No one can bring out Rajat's finer nuances so beautifully as u do. 👏

In JA Forum, You were the most sensational puzzle piece in an already set jigsaw picture puzzle...😃 whereas CN Forum seems other way around. Here, u are the central, pre-chosen piece with other members (old & new) trying to fit in.😉

Unlike most ppl here, I am thoroughly enjoying CN...If JA is all about CLASS (only first 150 episodes), CN is all about MASS !!!⭐️

When we have both class & mass, in the form of RAJAT TOKAS, I am not complaining. With Shyamala Aunty's brilliant & top class analysis adding to it, I could not ask for more !!!

Hats off Aunty !!!

My reply is not complete with out some one's pic 😳

PS:

Aunty, Its really nice to see lot of new members adding to ur long list of nieces. But we old ones are a possessive lot. Therefore, we claim exclusive copyrights on your tags like chipmunks, wicked, wretched imp, poppet & so on. Not to forget ur belan!

Yes, yes, I see what all this is in aid of, you little minx (this is a new one, reserved only for you and Khushi!😉), and don't think I am going to be taken in by all this soft-soaping, not for a moment!😆

I do not think of myself on the lines of anything like the extravagant build up you have given me, and I would be content if you kids could only make an appearance on these threads and show that you have read them, if nothing more. And not, after hitting the Like button, make comments that prove that you have not read the post at all, or if you have, not paid any attention to the key parts! 😉

That, my darling Anjali, would suffice for me! I have tried, but I simply cannot go on correcting tenacious misconceptions and kneejerk critiques any longer. It is a pointless exercise.

You are right, and Shreya too. I don't think I can keep up these daily posts. It is not so much the post itself but the responses to the comments that wear me down. I think that from the next week, I shall try doing biweekly posts on Wednesday and Saturday, unless there is some phenomenally good episode that needs instant and comprehensive analysis. Let us see how that works out.

Take care of yourself, my little poppet, and do not let the work-IF balance stress you out. Work always comes first. Yes, and no matter how many new nieces I acquire - and I am very pleased and gratified to have acquired so many of them so soon - the old lot will always be special for me. My wicked, mischievous chipmunks - provided they stay the same as well!😉

Affectionately,

Shyamala Aunty

Thank you, my dear Adwitiya! I needed that moral support. It is getting so tiresome, to go on and on saying the same thing, and finding that it makes not the least dent.😕 Not that I think it will do any good, your effort or mine or Shailaja's, but at least we tried.

I cannot understand this relentless nitpicking, as if the rest of Hindi language TV was Shakespeare and Bhavabhuti rolled into one. It is not even as though anyone pays extra to watch a show, like a family that has to spend for petrol or a taxi, movie tickets, parking, popcorn, samosas and coke, and so feels cheated if it does not match up to their expectations. If you do not like it so much, the remote is always there! And if you must nitpick, at least make sure your arguments are coherent and are borne out by the facts of the case. I am already at the point when I no longer want to set anyone or anything right.

I agree with what you have got to say, not to mention I completely understand what you have been trying to stress on for the last couple of your posts.😊

Most of the historic novels and Shakespeare's plays as pointed out by Shailaja, only borrow the names and locations maximum. Rest all of it is merely fabricated tales to be sold for entertainment. Citing this example that I have come across -

The fact that Chandragupta had slipped into the army camp of Alexander is a possibility and now I have read a play on this historic encounter by an eminent playwright of early 20th century and a story depicting the same encounter in a completely new light by another eminent author, written during late 20th century. Both these depictions are totally contradictory to each other, and yet both these works were critically acclaimed and well received by the readers, all the same.

This was a just an example, there might be many more. Thus, when novels and plays can be accepted unanimously and judged strictly on the basis of quality of work and creativity, a TV show must certainly get a chance.

So a bit of entertainment with a talented protagonist to look up to doesn't do much harm, does it? 😳

As for the rest, if I see one more post on my threads - for I wisely read nothing else, unless invited to do so - about the deplorable deviations from history, I shall start sticking straw in my hair and climbing the nearest wall!😡 I agree completely, in this context, with the part of yours now in italics. I have been writing again and again and again on this benighted topic, but it is like the rock of Sisyphus, it always rolls down on my head! I am giving below, for facility of reference and for your pleasure, the key extracts from those posts of mine, the latest of which was to myviewprem.

The fact is that contrary to the assumptions of most here, including yourself, the script thus far seems to have a good bit to do with such reliable historical accounts as are available to serious researchers. (See below)

As for the beard scene, Saraswathi Akka had a very neat explanation for it, that it was Nandini's beard and sideburns set that Chandragupta had removed. If he had retained it for all eventualities, it would have had a lot of spirit gum on it and could have been stuck on in a jiffy. Now, how much extra footage would it have taken them to show this procedure as a flashback? 30 seconds? If they had done it as they did for the mark on the arm for all the Ameri soldiers that Jalal notices and then copies on his hand, and thus escapes exposure, it would have been very neat. But they just don't care.

And someone was complaining that Nand sent out just 6 soldiers to hunt for Chandragupta and rescue Nandini, forgetting that this was just one posse and very many others must have been fanning out in all directions, for they do not know which direction Chandragupta took after getting out of the palace. Such carping is a product of a lack of attention to logic, and the propensity to make knee jerk critiques.

Chandra gupta has come into the lions den and is just trying to absorb the surroundings when he suddenly finds he is caught. But best part is he did not get scared like anyone would, maintained composure 👏👏👏 which shows he is fit to be an emperor and answers in calm way nisandey. What i did not like was that nanda told him to fight his son, oh why? he is a spy why should a crown prince fight a spy in front of the court full of other kingdom princes? Now that he was defeated will not magadh and nand prestige reduce in eyes of other smaller kingdoms?

He wants to enjoy a gladiatorial killing. It was perfectly clear. If he could have, he would have fought him himself, probably using the ustari!😆

Next thing chandra refuses nandini hand in marriage - oh really chandra are you dreaming that emperor will give his ladli daughter hand in yours and make you a prince? how stupid? If at all anyone will reject it should be nand who rejects hand of nandini to a spy not other way. But here all ulta pulta is happening. Second nand only whips chandra for having audacity to reject nandini, any other emperor his head would be off his shoulders in seconds. That is why i say chandra speaks too highly in wrong places he is not a prince of any kingdom still to talk in this manner and not to get away unpunished severly. Luckily this is a serial so he got whipped, in reality he would be beheaded instantly

But what is there not to understand in this? Chandragupta wants to humiliate Nand and his daughter, so he says that quite deliberately, before Nand, who is yet to recover from the shock of Dhananand's total rout, says anything.

The fact is Nand has himself announced that the person who defeats Dhananand can claim the hand of Nandini. Chandragupta is then invited to fight Dhananand by Padmanand himself. So what is stupid about Chandragupta saying so? There is nothing ulta pulta, it is completely well thought out, plus being deliberately and cuttingly insolent.

No hero of any adventure story ever gets beheaded, and in any case, Nand wants to question him, so he would hardly have had him beheaded him on the spot.

And no amount of his great warrior in reality would not protect chandra, one arrow is al it shall take to bring his down to his feet. Chandra and CVs should realize that chandar is no bollywood hero to defeat thusands and escape from pataliputra. Even bravest of warriors have been killed by numbers and brain and could not escape enemy hand. So first chandra should learn when to speak and what to speak and when to show his bravado. Till then he cannot become a great warrior forget emperor.

Look, this sort of daredevilry is a standard feature of adventure stories like the Three Musketeers. The hero always wins out against impossible odds.

The next thing i did not like was nand wipping chandra oh really an emperor shall whip a spy would took an prince vesh and enter magadh, that too after he defeats his most capable son? Which emperor does that? Nand at heart is still an barber- his thinking is still that of a barber not come to emperor level must say. What are body gaurds and soldiers for to carry out the dirty task of an emperor. Akbar, Ashoka, Chandra gupta, etc cannot be expected to go around whipping spies and other lowly criminals even if they create contempt.

But you have answered your own question. Nand is only a barber at heart. Moreover, as I had written to you in my last response that you have not apparently noted, he is also a sadist.

With all getting angry and shouting etc from nand to his sons and chandra too acting brave, the only person acting human and sensible is nandini and party. Nandini was right in getting angry at rejection, anyone will but would she want to marry a commoner spy. Its better she had rejected his hand in marriage instead of chandra that would be the correct thing. Like a draupadi rejecting karnas hand.

Here i disagree with auty that nandini is childish, in midst of all manipulative and political persons be it nand, avantika, chandra, chankya, amatya rakshas and nands sons she is the only one acting normal a breathe of fresh air. Whether her giggles or anger or pouts etc it does not look to me too irritating for in this mad insane political world she is the only one humane, the one innocent soul who has no idea of kapata or double layer. She shows what she is inside out, what she is inside she is outside the innocent soul enjoying her life as the ladli princess of her father and 9 brothers pampered by the ten men in her life. Is that not how only daughters are in reality? pampered by all the men of house as she is the only one lady of house, the delicate darling of her brothers and the life of her father. Yes she is immature, innocent like i said no kapat in her heart or mind, protected by harsh realities of life by daddy dearest like a Gautam Buddah etc

I can see that you are all set to become the president of the Nandini Fan Club😉, and don't worry, you will have Sri(jayaks02) and a number of others as members. No harm in that, and I can quite understand a young man like you making allowances for a pretty, chirpy young lady!😉😉

But you will not me.😉 Right now, Nandini is childish, and does not behave in the least like royalty in public. Perhaps that is because she is half of very low stock.,being only a barber's daughter. (In fact, but for Padmanand's military strength, no royal candidate would have turned up at the swayamwar at all, considering Nandini as too low born). No princess born and bred behaves in public the way she behaves at the swaymavar. She actually giggles when the other princes refuse to fight Dhananand, which is the height of bad manners. Later, she behaves like a Roman at a gladiatorial circus, waiting for the kill. Being young is no excuse, princesses were trained in proper behaviour from a very young age.

And this not Kapilavastu under Suddhodhana. I for one cannot understand how Nandini does not know anything of her father's atrocities against the people. In the five year old, one can understand her ignorance, but this 16 year old? This is not innocence, it is deliberate blindness.

The reality will strike her when her family is killed by chandra and she is forcefully married to chandra by chankya. That moment she will realize life is not a bed of roses her father set for her, its filled with thrones all along and she has to find the rose moments among all the thrones at her feet. Till then i do not mind her innocence, she is just being a teenager enjoying life by pranks and laughter.

Chandra meeting his mom is too filmy So what? This is a film of sorts, only much longer. 😆

No Aunty...I'm not assuming anything about the history bit...frankly, I've never been a history buff...in fact, to the contrary...it actually doesn't matter to me whether the minute historical events have authenticity or no, when we are not even sure of Nandini's existence!!?!

EK is not here to make historical documentaries.. she is here to make her moolah through entertainment...period 😃

No, child, I do not disagree with you at all in the matter of cinematic liberty. But there are limits. In Jodha Akbar, the chudail track crossed all those limits,as did the constant kaali shaktiyaan undercurrent in CAS.

My darling girl,

That reference to me climbing the wall with straws stuck in my hair was not for any of your posts!😉

This said, I am rewatching the 1990 Chanakya, which I have on 8 original DVDs. It is said to be the last word in authenticity - the events, the ambience, the sets - shockingly simple for anyone used to the current versions!-- the costumes, the characters, in short the works.

I am more than ever convinced that while it is the product of a magnificent obsession of Chandraprakash Dwivedi's, it would be booted out in less than 3 months today.

He was not bothered about such mundane things as TRPs, nor was Doordarshan. Nor was he bothered about the entertainment value. The only remotely glamorous female was Purushottam's daughter, who married Ambhi of Takshashila but remained a devotee of Chanakya's. It is she who helps him bring Ambhi out of the Macedonian fold. Chandragupta was a side character, and a dour Chanakya strode across the screen like a colossus.

It was also very demanding in terms of the close attention needed to grasp all the twists and turns of the plot.

Just take that and add it to the present viewership. Even all these vocal votaries of "authentic history" in the script would have bolted quietly. 😆Result: TRPs of 0.4. End of story. 'Enuff said, 't you agree?

Hi Shyamala Aunty & All 😃,

I finally managed to get some "me time" for myself...😃...& here I am...😆

I still haven't got around to reading your post in detail, Shyamala Aunty, (due to time constraints, of course) but one thing that is definitely putting off & amusing at the same time, is the constant "history lament" where one of the two protagonists of the show called "Chandra Nandini" is supposed to be fiction 😆😆

Secondly, if some people are disliking the show so much, they still get time to not only watch it, but also write long posts on how much/what/why they dislike it 😕

I just know that I watch TV PURELY For entertainment & I don't find a better entertainer than RT today on TV. ...also, even if we pick up any best selling novel, we almost NEVER find it gripping & engrossing from page 1...it takes a good 20-25 pages for the story/plot to settle down & engross the reader completely...

Hence, if, instead of trying to search/invent/ discover faults with a new show, how about concentrating on the positives (RT/Chanakya) of the show in the beginning & allowing the story/characters/plot to settle down & save our verdicts for a later date?!?...

I just know that however weak the script/sets/characterizations etc maybe at the moment, I look forward to watching CN first thing when I turn on my tata sky recordings...😃...for I have a lot of hope from RT/SBP/CN...

Also, though I know that Aunty even you may disagree with me on this, I believe a lot in "cinematic liberty"...there's a difference between reality & cinema...the director can make use of this to drive home a point, which may seem improbable in reality...eg the nakli beard scene...to me, it was perfectly acceptable...instead of doing "baal ki khaal",(pun intended 😆😉), i accepted it as a matter of fact scene...may be cgm was prepared for such eventualities n was hence ready to disguise himself at the "drop of a choga"😆

In short, a plea to all...concentrate on the positives of the show & allow the script to settle down...it's basically a love story, having little to do with history, (CGM name is just to add to the intrigue), & the plot is simply setting stage for the 2 protagonists to hate each other & then to fall in love with each other...rest all is time pass...😃

completely agree with you!!! i too dont get why people are watching the show if they are so pissed off with it😆 me too focussing only on the positives of the show..and yeah no show is gripping from the first episode...it gets deeper and deeper as the story unfolds
