MUMBAI: After seeing tough days in Bollywood, life seems to be looking up finally for Upen Patel. The British-born actor, who just turned 26, has several promising projects on hand, including in a Suniel Shetty production.

Upen celebrated his birthday on Friday shooting in Goa for Ashwini Dheer's comedy '123'.

"I didn't tell anyone it was my birthday. Didn't feel the need to. So there was no way the unit would know. I finished my work and now I'm back in Mumbai. Maybe I'll have a small belated birthday get-together, just for close friends," Upen said.

He admits he doesn't have too many friends, not even a girlfriend.

Upen's new project with choreographer Ganesh Acharya is called 'Money Hai To Honey Hai'.

Upen has just clinched an Rs.10 million deal with a production house for a film.

The untitled film to be produced by Asthvinayak will be directed by comedy specialist Neeraj Vora. Upen is the first youngster from the post-Shahid Kapoor generation to have secured the magical remuneration.

Upen is delighted by the turn of events.

"It's not so much the money but the fact that it proves I'm finally being taken seriously as an actor. When I came from London I had no one to support me. All I had was my love for Hindi films and my determination to be a star.

"After a good start there was a lull. But I rode the rough crest thanks to filmmakers like Suneel Darshan and Abbas-Mustan who had faith in me."

Another support system for Upen comes from Suniel Shetty who has offered him a comedy called 'Loot' with Govinda.

"Then of course there's choreographer Ganesh Acharya's second film 'Money Hai To Honey Hai' for producer Kumar Mangat, who has signed me for a three-film deal. I couldn't have asked for more."

Kumar Mangat is leaving no stoned unturned for his new comedy film One Two Three starring Upen patel and Tanisha as the romantic pair amongst an ensemble cast which includes Paresh Rawal, Suniel Shetty, Tusshar Kapoor, Esha Deol, Sameera Reddy.

A One Crore set has been constructed in Mumbai for a dance number picturized on Bollywood's latest heartthrob Upen Patel and Kajol's younger sister Tanisha.

"This is Upen and Tanisha introduction in the film, and I wanted a very grand look, something no one has seen before, so we sat with our art team to come up with something unique" says Ashwin Dheer, the director of the film.

The song is choreographed by Ganesh Acharya and what is even more interesting is that the song features 1500 dancers- a first of its kind says the choreographer.

Well let's hope the young stars can dance to the right tunes and not just another Ek Do Teen.

Run Upen Run!

Actor Upen Patel has been running around quite a bit. We spotted him run on the beach as early as 5 p.m. And the actor, we've learnt, covers a minimum of 8 km. at a steady trot.

All this isn't just to keep fit, but also to help him increase his stamina.

After all long shoots may be tiring, na! Also, the nature lover that UP is, running on the beach gives him more pleasure than hitting the gym at an early hour.

It gets him closer to nature! How spiritual!

I can't believe he runs that much. That really shocked me too. 😲 Well to have that great body I guess he has to be a fitness freak.

Another news-break and it's on IndiaFM yet again!

If you thought choreographer turned director Ganesh Acharya was demoralized after the non-success of SWAMI, you're mistaken. The talented craftsman has moved on to his next venture. Only thing, he isn't producing the film this time. It's being done by Kumar Mangat [OMKARA].

Ganesh's next film has an interesting title -- MONEY HAIN TO HONEY HAIN -- and will boast of an interesting cast as well: Govinda, Aftab Shivdasani and Upen Patel. One more lead man and three leading ladies are under finalization.

What's MONEY HAIN TO HONEY HAIN all about? "It's a comedy… no, I am not following any trend, believe me. I liked the script and felt like starting it instantly. Let me add, it's not a mindless comedy. Sure, it's a masala film, but there's a strong message that runs concurrently, like LAGAAN and LAGE RAHO MUNNABHAI," Ganesh tells me.

Shooting begins from October 20.

If you are wondering where in the world has hot-bod Upen Patel disappeared we have some news on his front. That he is a fitness freak is known to one and all. And with his chiseled body he has also been endorsing gyms and inspiring the youth to be fit and fine.

But now Upen goes one level ahead. The actor is learning an ancient form of martial arts called Muay Thai. Muay Thai also known as 'Thai Boxing' or 'The Art of the Eight Limbs' is an advanced form of martial art practiced in several Southeast Asian countries. It's the national sport of Thailand.

Says a source close to Upen, "To qualify to learn the sport one has to maintain high fitness levels. So to meet the criteria Upen has been working out rigourously for quite some time". How is Muay Thai different from the other forms of martial arts? The source explains, "As against conventional sports where one uses two or four limbs, in Muay Thai one has eight points of contact including two knees and two elbows. Upen is just out to achieve that"

We tried to get in touch with Upen but he was unavailable. The source explains, "Upen has currently left for Toronto to give his assessment test for Muay Thai."

Seems like after Shah Rukh Khan's 6 pack abs, it could be Upen's Muay Thai that will be the talk of the town!
