I saw the movies. I like James McAvoy a lot! He's an amazing actor! He played the role of Professor X very well. I like Professor X very much because he's extremely intelligent and empathetic. He thinks all of the human beings aren't bad even though he's not a human. He doesn't support killing human beings. His ideologies are very different from Magneto's ideologies. Btw, there's a unique movie named, Split where James McAvoy played a character with multiple personality disorder and that character had 24 personalities.

Honestly, at that time, Patrick Stewart's Prof. X was still too freshly on my mind, so I couldn't really connect to James McAvoy (this stands true for almost all the characters from the younger casting). I also don't like telepaths on the whole (fights become too boring smiley36)... so that doesn't help matters either. Nevertheless, I do like Prof. X more than other telepaths like Jean Grey or Emma Frost... and his idealogies are far better than Magneto's (Magneto's beliefs made more sense in the post Holocaust era... they don't resonate the same way now)... so I get what you mean.

I haven't watched James McAvoy in anything apart from this, so I can't judge his acting much... but now that it has been so long since those old movies, I would be happy to watch him as Prof. X if they bring him to the MCU smiley9

I think James McAvoy's face has softness which makes him really suitable for an empathetic character like Professor X. But on the other hand, Patrick Stewart's face doesn't have that kind of softness.

And... lemme know when you want to start the Ultimate series. We can make a Buddy Reads kinda thread instead of spamming here I suppose smiley36 (pity comics won't count in the reading challenge smiley24)

Comics are confusing because there's definitely another Ghost-Spider series I should've read first, but alas, here we are. The one I read was fun, I loved being in Gwen's head and they had an interesting take on Sue and Johnny Storm.

I have Ultimate Spider-man on hold right now at the library, so will definitely let you know when I get my hands on it! We can exchange some recommendations too.

I understand what you mean. The Hickman's run of Fantastic Four and FF was interwoven through the 2 series and I wasn't aware of this at first.... so ended up reading things out of order before realizing that there was a specific reading order involved smiley44

I'm reading comics online so lemme know whenever you get your copies... we can start smiley9.

One of us can make a thread in the book talk forum with Marvel comics or something as title... so we can use that thread for reading and discussing the comics as well as reviews of the ones we have read + suggesting new recs smiley4

I love Gwen... both in comics as well as the ASM movies... even more so in the Spider-verse films smiley27. But with her character, it's always a risk... and after having read through a couple of good FFs only to have my heart broken in the end, I decided to avoid stories with her tag (unless it's by an author I trust to give me an HEA). After spider-verse, I actually read a fair few FFs of her pairing with Miles... and they're great! Spider-verse fics tend to keep them both alive.. so I can freely peruse that tag smiley36

Both DP and DD were inspired by Spidey.. after his comics became famous. In DD, they went with the senses and swinging stuff a bit... for DP they decided to take the snark and jokes. As you might notice, even their costumes are inspired by Spidey's own (including the color). So, both of these characters play off well with him... but I wouldn't ship either smiley36. I've read some Team Red FFs and they are good... but only as buddy cops style action... not for anything else smiley36.

Oh! How could I forget Hulk... of course.. I like Hulk and Spidey (Bruce and Peter too)! The comic panel where Spidey "defeats" Hulk with a knock knock joke is one of my favs smiley4. As is the one where Hulk says he remembers Peter (after the spell) because it only worked on Banner not Hulk... I would loooovvve to see a scene like that in MCU smiley42

About shipping him with Johnny, I never did that while reading the comics... it's only after reading all these FFs that I can somewhat see it now... the story that first drew me in is "only the pure of heart" by "miniature_pineapples" on AO3. It is a fairly long OS... but everything I want from a rom-com with a dash of action and superhero hijinks on the side. I'll add the links in the excel sheet tomorrow... so you can check directly from there smiley9.

We should have a MCU or even a general Marvel forum here 🤔. I'm sure there are plenty of fans on IF... it would be fun to discuss the latest movies or comic plots and stuff... but I guess uske liye IF ke alawa places hai smiley36

Exclude the MCD warning when searching for MJ fics, and/or include the happy ending tag. You'll find some good ones. But yeah, spiderverse is def the safe zone smiley36

Exactly! I love both those characters with Spidey, their equation is def interesting to see but I just don't see anything shippable there 😅

Which comics are those? I always love Hulk-Spidey interactions smiley42 I think they're kinda adorable together smiley36 I feel like Spidey is one of the only heroes who knows how to handle hulk smiley9smiley27

I can't find that fic or that author. Do you have a link? I'll BM it.

We def should have an MCU or a comics forum. I have other sites to discuss other fandoms, but I'd like to be able to discuss MCU stuff with IF folks here smiley9

(Although tbh I haven't been watching any mcu after phase 3... Just wandavision, loki, and the Spidey movies. I'll probably watch the Hawkeye show at some point, but nothing else has felt watch-worthy 😐)
