Thing is, I have a long list of books that I'm gonna borrow and read, so I plan to prioritise them first so I can keep returning them. But these 4 I already own, that's why I'm not in a hurry to read them 😅

That's the plan. But since I'm a totally whimsical person when it comes to choosing my books, I also have no faith in sticking to my plans smiley37 I honestly never know which book is gonna be my next read. Just giving you a fair heads up smiley36

Oh okay, I have understood. smiley36

Lizzie, I'll start buddy reading eminent Bengali author Satyajit Roy's book, Professor Shonku Samagra, with Muskan (IF user name- Mushat). Please add the name of the book and the names of the participants (our names) to the buddy read list.

One thing I wanted to clarify to everyone participating in Buddy Reads - the Rules are totally up to you and have to be mutually agreed on among all the participants.

You don’t have to do one chapter or few chapters a day- you can decide to finish the whole book and then discuss it. It’s totally up to you how you want to do it. The first post just contains suggestions highlighting how a Read-along usually works. Read-alongs typically mean that you all read 1-2 chapters or a small portion of the book, discuss it, read some more, discuss that and so on till you get to the end.

The other way of doing it - if you find that reading pace is too different amongst you all and you don’t want to tweak your own reading to match the others - is you can choose to each read as you see fit, and then come back at the end to discuss the book. It just means that you all are reading the book in roughly the same time frame. And when you’re done (by a specific end-date that you all agree to) you can then post discussion Qs on the whole book, and discuss it as a whole.

You also don’t need to have daily reading goals for a book such as a chapter a day. You can instead set a goal like everyone finishes upto chapter 10 by the end of 1 week and then you can discuss upto that point.

Like I said, the rules are totally up to you, just make sure you all are comfortable with whatever is decided.

I have a question. Are buddy reading and reading along same? If not, what is the difference?

Bee, I'll start buddy reading Professor Shonku Samagra with a Bengali participant, Muskan (IF user name- Mushat), today. You can join us if you want. I know you don't want to read the book now. I'm not forcing you to join us. It's only a polite invitation. If you change your mind you can join. If not, that's completely fine as well.

Tiara, you're also Bengali like me. So, I'm inviting you to the buddy read of Satyajit Roy's Professor Shonku Samagra. You can join if you want.

Read-alongs means you are reading along with talking about the book. Buddy reads means you're teaming up with 1 or more buddies as you read. So they are similar but not the same.

For eg: You can have a Buddy Read that is a Read-along or not - meaning you can just read the book together within a pre-determined time frame and discuss it at the end. Read-alongs mean you are reading and discussing it as you go. A Buddy Read may or may not be a Read-Along, but Read-Alongs are usually Buddy Reads (meaning a group or 2 or more get together to read a book)

@b: this is actually a good idea because some days we might not be able to complete that day’s chapters but would catch up to it the subsequent days. That way it’ll be a read along but we don’t have to change our speed much.

Can we discuss the stories or scenes/acts while reading the book? Or should we do that after completing the book?

Like I said, it's totally upto you.

If you've decided on doing a Read-along, then it's normal to even post quotes, and thoughts as you're reading.

Again - the rules are upto you - the group in the Read-Along. I'm not going to interfere. Whatever works best for you!
