A woman shared screenshots of her private conversation with Palash, and those images quickly circulated online, especially on Reddit. The woman, identified as Mary D Costa, posted excerpts of their chat on her Instagram story, in which Palash spoke about maintaining a long distance relationship with Smriti and mentioned travelling with her during cricket tours. His tone in the conversation appeared flirtatious as he complimented the woman and invited her to meet him at different places, even suggesting an early morning visit to Versova beach. When asked whether he loved Smriti, he avoided giving a direct answer.

In the said screenshots, Palaash is seen asking the girl to come for a 'swim' with him. 'Let's go to marriot to swimm next week whenever you are free.' Replying to which the girl says, 'You are dating na.' He then replies with, 'That doesn't mean we can't go for a swim.'

The leak created a wave of online criticism directed at Palash, although many people also urged social media users to avoid speculating and to give both families privacy, especially given the health scares they were already dealing with.

Reddit reports also suggest that the singer was caught cheating on Smriti by her friend and the same was reported to her later, which is why their wedding was called off contrary to reports of their wedding being postponed. However, the confirmation on these reports being true or not awaits.
