The best opening line I've read in a while! Caught my attention immediately smiley36

When I woke up this morning with a feeling that this was going to be the Worst Day of My Life So Far, I brushed it off as the self-destructive voice in my head doing his daily affirmations.

Bingsu for Two is the name of the book. The author is Korean-American, and Bingsu is a Korean shaved ice dessert. Bee wrote the title of the book in the main thread of the reading challenge.

Yeah, like Shirsha said. This is from Bingsu for Two by Sujin Witherspoon. It's fairly recent (published this Jan) so idk if you've read it. It's the author's debut novel I think.

It has fun chapter names too smiley36 been a long time since I've read those smiley27

First chap was called "A lot of bad decisions led me to this moment, but in my defence I made them really fast" smiley36

Then there's these ones like -

"Hacking into my ex-girlfriend's phone but not in a toxic stalker way, I promise"

"Death by Condensed milk and Sex jokes"

"There's only one bed. Just kidding. There's actually no beds. We'll probably sleep on the floor"

"I'm like King Midas, except everything I touch turns into Shit instead of Gold"

Fun right? smiley36

Miles long TBR... ain't that relatable smiley36

Fair warning though... this book uses the miscommunication trope as a major plot point. I know you don't like that one, but considering the characters and the situations, I think this was one of those stories where it kinda makes sense.

Also it's a squeaky clean romance.. no spice, just mild kissing towards the end smiley36 the blurb promises an enemies-to-lovers fake dating book but although the former is true, we get very little of the fake dating. I wish we got more of that.

All that said, the book features a group of characters (including the two MCs) who are all very fun and lovable, and the found family was done amazingly... that was easily my favourite part of the story smiley42smiley27

It's honestly like a teen finding his place in the world, gaining confidence and making friends, falling in love and finally learning to stand for himself. Very sweet and wholesome smiley27

Maybe my kid will like it. I'll get her to check it out.

Yeah miscommunication trope isn't my favorite but if it's balanced with quirky humour, I'm willing to give it a try.

Also, I'm okay with no/ minimal spice as long as the plot hooks me in!
