So... continuing here...

About Ron, there's no doubt that he was a slacker... but I think Harry needed the levity and humor in those dark times. He already had a hard task in the form of Hermione, so her needed someone to chill out with smiley36.

Ron is not my fav character (or even close to it), but I like what he offers to the story. The times when is out of the group temporarily (like Triwizard or when he leaves due to the horcrux), we realize how imp he is to them. Without him around, Harry and Hermione can barely hold a conversation together. He gave them an understanding of the Wizarding world (that came from experience and not books) and a family.

I like to think of the trio as - Brain (Hermione), Heart (Ron) and Soul (Harry)... all of them equally important for complete functioning smiley27.

But nevertheless, who would you have liked to see Hermione with?

Agreed. A character like Ron was definitely needed in the plot or else the plot would have become too uptight.

As for Hermione pairing up with someone, I never gave it a thought tbh. I never had the urge to pair anyone from the trio, more importantly not to each other for sure. I didn't even have the "Aww" thing for Harry and Ginny as many other fans did. All I need now is some OS, that soothes Snape's hurting heart and gives him peace. Snape and Lily "connection" was the only thing that caught my attention from the romance aspect. It was such a love-and-hate relationship, I had with Snape.

p.s. I am abnormal when it comes to romance. I already know.smiley36smiley36 All this discussion is making me want to read the books again, which I don't have smiley19

I wouldn't call that abnormal... I mean HP is not about romance and most of the story would work equally as well without any romantic subplots smiley1.

About Snape.. well he is a complicated character and I'm not sure what to say of his unrequited love for Lily. I commend Rowling for creating a character whose love is kinda the basis for the whole story... but you are just not sure whether you actually advocate it or not smiley36. I mean, I don't think Lily would have ever been with Snape even if she wasn't with James... but that he continued to love her... beyond her death.. is beautiful, tragic and also just a tad bit creepy. He was a highly flawed character and I understand what you mean by your love-hate for him.

Btw, if you want, I've PDF versions of all the books (American version). I could share them on email or something if you like smiley9.

Yes... mail would work. Can you send me your mail address in PM?

Btw, forgot to mention earlier... but I can probably find the Brit versions too online if that is to your preference. I usually prefer American Eng so that's what I downloaded.

Would love the Brit version if you have it otherwise the American version will do. I'd just be a tad bit annoyed with the spellings but nothing too extreme smiley36

I don't mind it much while reading but the different spellings did give me quite some headache during early school years smiley36. In India, UK version of English is commonly used, but I was brought up in a household where we read a lot of books from US authors... add to that my interest in computers (back in those days, computers only considered the US spellings correct), so I was always more used to the US spellings. Try explaining that to primary school teachers though smiley24.

Btw, I've sent the mail with Brit versions of the books. Enjoy reading smiley10.

Love,

Stuti

I grew up with British English, but when I went to grad school and onwards it's been the US so the switch was a nightmare, especially since I am in academia and that involves a lot of writing. Thank you. Haven't checked my email yet, but thanks again smiley1

I made the switch in secondary school itself, so it was easier for me. I keep getting the occasional remark that your spellings are wrong / odd smiley29 bcz people are more aware about the common words like color... but less so about scientific words like Heme or Sulfur... but since the comments are more from friends borrowing my notes rather than teachers, I've learnt to ignore them mostly smiley36.
