After finishing school in Mumbai, she spent two years in the U.S. studying to obtain an Arts Degree in Interior Design. With the overseas experience behind her, she came back to India, where she and Hrithik Roshan, her next door neighbor, met again, this time as friends. Their friendship soon turned in to love and they got married on December 20, 2000 in Bangalore, India. She is a Muslim and her husband Hrithik Roshan is Hindu.
She started her career and started earning before Hrithik Roshan had acted in his first film. She remained his support, and backed him even in the days when Hrithik Roshan struggled to make his acting dreams a reality. Later she turned professional with interior designing, opening her own interior design shop.
She made her first TV appearance on the show A Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, hosted by actress Simi Garewal with her boyfriend. She also appeared on Koffee with Karan (where she was joined by Gauri Khan, the wife of Shah Rukh Khan)
