Urmila Matondkar takes over from Simi Garewal in the remake of Karz; she will also do a specially sizzling number in the film

Urmila Matondkar has just signed the Karz remake to play the all-important role of Kamini, played by Simi Garewal in the original. And that's not all, Urmila will shimmy in a song specially incorporated for her in the film.

Bhushan Kumar of T Series, producer of the film, says, "Urmila was our first choice for the role. We are glad that she has agreed to be part of our film. I spoke to Himesh Reshammiya about it and he also felt the same. It is a very challenging role for any artiste. Urmila is a talented actress who has proved her worth time and again. We did not want someone too old, and Urmila has a certain freshness about her. We are also adding a special song in the remake and intend to use it the first half of the film. For Tina Munim's role, a new girl will be taken."

Simi Garewal in Karz

Urmila's career got some attention after she did Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag recently. Now, this Karz remake could give her career the much-needed second lease of life. "I have always done challenging roles and when I was offered the Karz remake, I knew I had to do it, and do it to the best of my ability. The challenge lies not in looking old or young but in my fidelity to the character. Simi did a wonderful job in the original. Even the music in the film should be great," she says.

Speaking about the song included in the film for her, she says, "I am very happy and from what I have been told, the song promises to be an outstanding one. However, right now it is too premature to talk about it. I am really looking forward to acting in the film, and to doing this special dance number."
