Hrithik and Ash were trained with weapons to do their own stunts and in Ashutosh Gowarikar's Jodhaa Akbar. The training was organized with the help of experts and action director Ravi Dewan.
Says Ravi, "Hrithik and Ash had to learn sword fighting in Mehboob Studio, Mumbai before we started shooting for the film and I trained them personally. Hrithik also took early morning horse riding lessons at the Mahalaxmi racecourse. He was wounded once when his leg got stuck and was pulled to a distance by that horse. He got some bruises on his arms and body but in the end, all the practice only made him a good rider."
The action director was full of praises for Hrithik. "The entry scene of Hrithik in the film is on a horse so it was necessary for us to make the scene look as realistic as possible. Hrithik co-operated with us and we did that scene without much retakes. He has amazing body language and did all the scenes almost spontaneously."
The Dhoom 2 jodi of Hrithik-Ash may have had many hi-tech fighting scenes in the slick film but here it was totally the opposite. "The war sequences are all man to man fights without any equipments," reveals Dewan, "We have not used any equipment as the war sequences are based on a period where machine weapons were not used. Even the geography of the battlefield does not allow us to use any machines as all the war scenes are filmed on a ground. It was a difficult task. There are scenes which took 10 to 12 days for us to shoot but it was worth it."
Ashutosh Gowarikar has made use of more than 200 horses and elephants for Jodhaa Akbar.
