| Even as Salman Khan seems to be less erratic these days (it's apparent when you meet him), he will continue to be known for his unconventional and quirky ways of dealing with things…and people as well.
This superstar has a strange way of accepting honour, too. He won't walk on to stage, like so many others, and rattle off some 50-odd other names who were responsible for his success. Actually, one hasn't seen him get an award for a long time now, so one doesn't know how he would react.
So when Sallu's film retrospective was held at the International Indian Film Awards (IIFA) recently, where some of his huge hits like, Maine Pyaar Kiya, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, Tere Naam and various other films were shown, one was very keen to know the reaction of the nation's heart-throb's to this honour bestowed upon him.
Commenting on being in the industry for 18 years only and already being considered a veteran, Salman says, "Mujhe aisa lagta hai ki yeh kuch game hai game! 'Retrospective?…C'mon! What's that? Next they'll give me a life-time achievement award...finish, gone, chalo ghar jaao (go home now). Next, I'll be playing grandfather roles... C'mon, I'm only 42. Give me a break..."
Though Sallu fans may feel that it's about time the super star's work is recognised since he has given some of the biggest hits, looks like Salman wants to preserve his youth which he does most successfully.
Strangely enough, one of Salman's most popular film, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was missing from his festival, and when questioned, Sallu says in a surprised tone, "Hum Dil De… is missing, it's not there? Kya bol rahe ho? Why? It's a good film."
"But there are so many films, it's natural that some would be missing, why are you guys stressing so much on 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam?"
"But thank god, my flops like Nischay and Suryavanshi were not there in the festival. I thought they would have my flops too," Sallu says with that trademark mischievous grin of his intact.
Looking absolutely thrilled and beaming with pride since his film Pyaar Kiya Toh… also figured in the list, chhote bhaiyya, Sohail, says, "There are so many hit films bhai has done that it's difficult to choose the really good ones."
And speaking of his personal favourite films, Salman's says, "Maine Pyaar Kiya, Andaz Apna Apna, Karan Arjun. I'm so glad that I did Maine Pyaar Kiya. I wouldn't have been here otherwise."
Even as Salman hasn't done an out and out romantic for a long time now, he's still known as one of the most popular romantic Indian hero. "Romance kiye toh zamaana ho gaya, I'm more into comedy for so long," adds Salman.
