"The disadvantage of having a bold image is that certain people react in a weird way. I have had people trying to assault me at times!" - Celina Jaitley

Time and again, Celina Jaitley manages to surprise with oomph that comes with utmost confidence! Although her last film Red fell flat at the box office, she is very hopeful of her upcoming flick - Suneel Darshan's Shakalaka Boom Boom. Celina Jaitley chats at ease with IndiaFM.

You look wonderful in the promos of Shakalaka Boom Boom
Well that's totally upto the audience to judge. Manish Malhotra has given me a very good look in the film; he has worked very hard on the clothes for Sheena - that's my character name. Sheena is a very overtly glamorous woman, she is a PR professional and she uses her glamorous looks and her sex appeal to get her work done. So as a result I had to be a little over the top and a little more glamorous and do a little extra. That's why you see all the clothes in the film are very well tailored. She is a New York based Indian girl who has achieved a lot at a very young age. So I think it has more to do with my character in the film that made me looking overtly glamorous, than what I am in real life.

You seem to be demanding sexual favours from Upen in the film...
Well I guess it is probably because I am in love with him in the film, and the only way I can get him is if I do his work. When you are in love you end up doing a lot of things which you shouldn't be doing because you don't think from your mind at all. You end up thinking from your heart and in this industry it happens many-a-times that people use their emotional sentiment. Since the last 100 years of our film industry and music industry, there have been a lot of stories when people have used their emotions to get their way across to success. And I guess that is the angle to that story where sexual favours have come in.

I play the role of a PR professional and she uses her glamorous looks and her sex appeal to get her work done.
Any homework you did for playing a PR professional?
I have been meeting a lot of PR professionals but I think Sheena is one of a kind. She is a New York based Indian. She is a young girl, she has achieved a lot in life, she is doing very well for herself and her character is more emotionally inclined than it is professionally inclined. Whatever she does is because she is a little crazy, she has got a big inflated ego at times. If she is in love she is in love that's it, that's the end of world.

I couldn't be cast in Andaaz because I had one film contract with Feroz Khan at that time and I wasn't allowed to do any other films.
You've been experimenting with the roles that you've been doing....
See I am trying to do as many different sorts of roles as I can do. My mission is basically more of a personnel search for the roles I really want to do. It is probably that and I guess I'm trying to find my true being.

Bobby Deol, Upen Patel two diverse actors totally. How were they as co-stars?
As usual the answer obviously will be very good. It was a very unusual experience for me because here there were these two people I am working with for the very first time in my life. One is very senior to me and the other one is younger to me and has made his debut much later in life.

So it just been an excellent experience because I always see what I can learn from the people I am working with. I learnt a lot of course working with Bobby and Upen. I have seen Upen work very hard on his dialogues, on his Hindi, on his dancing which is really very commendable for a new person, a newcomer. Bobby of course is already an experienced person but yet he has a lovely nature, he is very well behave, very down to earth always and always makes you have a good laugh on the sets. I have always seen him smiling. I have always seen him in a cheerful persona which is very good considering the linage that Bobby comes from and of course another reason is Bobby and I have been friends before.

The promotional campaign of the film is exciting. What's your reaction to that?
Mr. Darshan has taken severe interest in making sure that the promotional campaign in itself is very striking. The campaign is looking very good. The promo is a sort of prelude to the film. It has got a very positive response; we had the best people from the ad industry who designed this whole concept. The promotion is very good because when people see it they remember this is Shakalaka Boom Boom, and they remember who is wearing what in the poster which is a very good thing for a movie when it is going to release. I am very happy about it.

Bipasha got Dhoom 2 because Suneel Darshan presented her so well in Barsaat.
You play a very bold character… does it prove to be a drawback at times in real life?
Absolutely, it's a character that I am playing and I am not going to be -- why should I give any explanations at all if I play a bold or a glamorous character. It is just a character.

Have you experienced any difficulties in real life after doing such bold roles?
Yes that has happened but everything comes with a drawback. There is nothing in life which comes as a very good perfect package. Unfortunately I wish things were different. The disadvantage of having a bold image has been that certain audience reacts to you in a very weird way. They think that they can come and behave with you the way they want to. I have had people trying to assault me at times! I do carry security for that reason and it is a little crazy but I guess everybody has to face this kind of problem. Some people talk about it openly, some don't talk about it.

The music of Shakalaka Boom Boom is really booming
I guess my track record with Himesh Reshammiya has been very good. Himesh has been very lucky for me. His music has got me a whole lot of different aspect because there are people who associate me with a lot of good tracks and good movies, which is absolutely great. Whether it was Tom Dick and Harry or Red the music has been doing very well and now Shakalaka Boom Boom is topping the charts. In Shakalaka I see that Himesh has given a total different portrayal of music, it is an amalgamation of different sort of tracks. When you hear Himesh's music in this film, you don't say that "oh God ye phir waisa bana diya". It is something new, it is something fresh and I am glad because it is doing very well for itself.

Suneel Darshan… how was he as a Director?
Everybody knows he is wonderful and brilliant director. It was my dream to work with him in Andaaz but unfortunately I couldn't be cast because I had one film contract with Feroz Khan at that time and I wasn't allowed to do any other films. So I missed that great opportunity and since then I have been wanting to work with Mr. Darshan. Initially in Shakalaka Boom Boom I just had a guest appearance - I did not have full fledged role. I think Sanaa, Aditya Pancholi's daughter had the leading role and they asked me to do a guest appearance. But later on Mr. Darshan made it into a full fledged lead character in the film which was very good for me because I was getting to work with him! My main aim was to be able to remain and work under Mr. Darshan. He presents girls very beautifully and I think it is very evident in Shakalaka Boom Boom. Bipasha got Dhoom 2 because he presented her so well in Barsaat. He always does a wonderful job. His films have seen the biggest grosses overseas. His and Shahrukh Khan's films have grossed over half a million pounds business at times. To be able to work with a person like this was my luck.

Your future films?
Well I have two films signed under Mukta Arts banner. I will be doing No Entry Part II. I have another film end of this year with Suneel Darshan and I of course intend doing another comedy this year.

I think Red didn't do well because they released it on the third day of the board exams. And the main crowd which watches this film was all the young people.
Were you disappointed with Red not doing well?
Of course I was disappointed. Red has been very close to my heart though the good thing which came out of Red was people appreciated my performance in the film a lot which was what I was looking for. People said either she can be glamorous or she can only do comedies and it is so unfair because any actor who is good at comedy would obviously be the best at tragedy. Comedy and tragedy are the two sides of the same coin at the end of the day. I felt very hurt and sad when the movie didn't do well at the box office but I think it had more to do with timing of release of the film because they released it on the third day of the board exams. And the main crowd which watches the film was all the young people who were busy giving there exams. Had Red been released at the right time it would have done much better.

hope you enjoy reading it!!!
