Khan ka daan

Sallu has done it again. Reportedly the actor-who-loves-to-hand-out-gifts handed out Rolex watches to several Sri Lankan cricketers at a dinner party organised in their honour, at his place

The Sri Lankan cricket team got a taste of the Khan brand of hospitality on Monday evening when Salim Khan invited several cricketers over for dinner at the Khan's home at Galaxy Apartments. An ardent cricket fan, the noted scriptwriter, along with his sons Salman and Arbaaz Khan and their wives, were seen receiving the guests. And the story goes that at the end of the delightful evening, the cricketers got a feel of the famous 'Salman Khan generosity', when Sallu gifted them each a Rolex watch.

The Khans' guests included Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardane, Sanath Jayasuriya, Farveez Maharoof, Malinga Bandara and Nuwan Zoysa. The programme for the evening involved drinks and an informal dinner. Talking about the dinner, Salim Khan says, "It was a very private dinner. I had not really planned out anything as such. We're a bunch of cricket lovers and we just wanted to have our cricketers over."

So, what did they talk about? "I chatted up their captain Mahela Jayawardane and Sanath Jayasuriya. Other boys like Farveez Maharoof, Malinga Bandara and Nuwan Zoysa were also good to talk to. I've been closely following these boys on the cricket pitch for so long and finally, I met them. In fact, my entire family including my sons and their wives interacted with them."

Conversations veered from the international cricket scene to Salman Khan's shirtless act and even home-cooked biryani. Interestingly, the Sri Lankan cricketers have seen films penned by Salim Khan. And, of course, Salman's films are a favourite with them. Says Khan, "Just as I'm fond of watching these boys play cricket they also have seen our films. My son Arbaaz is particularly fond of the game. I used to wield the willow myself, about 10 years back."

He further adds, "Cricket is our religion. So when I get to know that they're in town I got in touch with them and expressed my desire to have them over for dinner company. Home-cooked food was served and they all seemed to have a good time."

We hear that cricketers have been regular visitors at the Khan residence. Informs Khan, "I have had the opportunity to meet all noted cricketers of the country. Dilip Vengsarkar has been a personal friend. So meeting cricketers has always been a pleasant experience."

Finally, when it was time to say good-bye, Sallu handed out Rolex watches to the cricketers. Sources reveal that the Khans have a tradition of handing out gifts to first-time visitors at the Khan household.

Salim Khan further adds, "We wished them luck as they left for Kolkata yesterday. I'm looking forward to the international one day that they're going to play with our men in blue."
