Colourism is very subconsciously ingrained in certain cultures. It could very well be true that some people mock Vicky because of his darker skin tone. The slurs they use seem indicative of that. I find Ranbir pretty average looks wise as well, but don’t see people mocking him with the same slurs. Perhaps, he fits in the good/decent looking category for the Indian audience better than Vicky.
On the other hand, it could also be that Vicky’s average features coupled with a lack of perceived power are the reason for the mockery. For eg. SRK and Ajay Devgn are darker skinned, average looking men as well, but exude either charisma or star power. Below average looking men like Rajnikant are literally worshipped in the South.
I think that people respond to good looks or perceived power in a person. If a celebrity doesn’t have either, they become a victim to mocking and vicious trolling. I also think the trolls are sour because Vicky got Katrina Kaif as his wife, who was and (arguably) still is the heart throb of many.
