Srk never took a risk, and it was never a do or die situation for him to be forcefully cast in negative roles.

The truth is, much before he was even signed for any risky negative roles of Darr, Baazigar and Anjaam, he was offered and started shooting for conventional romantic hero roles in films like Deewana, Raju bann gaya gentleman, King Uncle, Dil aashna hai and Chamatkar in which he played the roles of conventional romantic hero and 3 films out of those 5 were successful.

He got good offers at the start of his career due to his tv popularity. Big producers like kundan shah and Aziz mirza totally supported him and even Hema Malini selected him for her ambitious first directorial dil aashna hai.

He never had any shortage of offers that's why he had 5 releases in his debut Year 1992 and all were having him in romantic conventional hero roles.

Another major self-madeup and totally incorrect thing in the above post is the statement "when none of the leading heroes were ready to take the risk of portraying a negative character".

Salman Khan was very enthusiastic to do Baazigar, he was the first and original choice of this film, but Saleem Khan wanted a better climax which could connect with the audience (later the same climax was used by the directors which Saleem suggested) but the makers didn't agreed that time and Srk stepped in as the second choice.

Darr was also originally an Amir Khan movie, who already portrayed a negative and dark character in his 2nd film Raakh for which he was even nominated for the National award as a best actor.

Due to the joint narration issue with Sunny, which everyone knows, Amir had to leave Darr, a role he was very excited to portray.

SRK's PR is equivalent to that of Deepika's today.

Ra One and MNIK were not clean hits. They are given this tag now after adding all earnings from rights and overseas. Kind of same hit tag as Brahmastra.

Why leave out Dharma and also fact that K3G, KKHH, KHNH are multi starrers? Darr, DTPH are also multi starrers. 2 heroine or 2 hero flicks, foreign locations and big PH.

Pardes is a solo starrer. How many more films are solo hits?

OSO, MHN, CDI relied on his star power. Karan Arjun is multi starrer. DDLJ is solo vehicle but YRF film.

Forget YRF and Dharma, I wonder how many hits he would have without repeating jodi with Kajol.

Baazigar, DDLJ, K3G, KKHH, Dilwale, Karan Arjun, MNIK all reliant on Kajol jodi factor. He even brings other stars for special appearance to make film more watchable like multi starrer song in OSO or Kajol, Bipasha, Rani song in RNBDJ, Kajol and Rani in KHNH song.

How many other actors rely on one specific jodi with actress or multiple special appearances by other stars?

Also how many hits beyond lover boy (jilted or ideal lover)?

You have a valid argument.

With due respect, Dharma was always a respectable PH and worked with biggest stars like Amitabh, Zeenat, Shatrughan Sinha, Mithun etc when Yash Johar was spearheading it. It did not become a known name only after SRK worked with them.

One can debate about talent or abilities of Karan Johar but one can never say big stars did not work with Dharma prod earlier.

Karan seems to have learnt a lot from Adi Chopra and Yash Chopra and modeled Dharma along lines of YRF. His clear attempt to copy YRF and Chopras reflects in his films and choice of stars, music and interactions with media. The wannabe Chopra stamp is all over Karan's work except that Chopras were low key irl and Karan is this diva who is overexposed in media as an anchor, social commentator, social butterfly, gossip king and reality show judge.

More than SRK, I feel Chopra stamp and copying them has made Karan take Dharma to higher levels than his dad. SRK of course has a hand and so do Kajol, Big B and Rani in making Karan films so big.

Bachchans have also worked a lot with him due to friendly relations with his dad Yash Johar. Abhishek, Jaya, Amitabh, Ash, no one refused his films. He gets pick of big stars and star kid families be it Hrithik, Saif or Bebo. His family already had that network so it would not be too fair to say only SRK made K Jo.

SRK made Farah Khan though. Otherwise there is NO way a choreographer could turn into a successful director despite her utterly crap filmmaking skills. SRK gave her star power for her films. Even if it meant risking his own credibility with fluffy films when tide ws turning in favour of content oriented films.

Karan Johar is Aditya Chopra's cousin

How can you say Farah did not cash on SRK's romantic image? OSO is a love story. MHN, HNY are different but relied heavily on his romantic scenes with Sush and DPad or sultry songs with them. Somehow marketing of films has always focused on love story aspect even if main story is not about that.

CDI is the only SRK film which is marketed without iota of any romantic or love angle.

Even Don series was marketed on hype of SRK and PC affair or alleged affair. SRK has only himself to blame for his image and even in his Temptations tour he has positioned himself as representative of love.

I see CDI and to some extent Swades as only serious attempts to break romantic image.

His fanatics keep denying it.

Why beleive in ALLEGED things??? That has nothing to do with SRK and his career but with the people who want to believe in ALLEGED things.

There are a lot of valid posts, I think!

But honestly, when stating that SRK got five movies at once by those who know him from TV, why should he then not have become a successful actor also without YRF and Aditya's cousin Karan - in the long run?

I think, the best argument concerning the collaboration with both is that they mutually benefitted from this collaboration...none of both MADE SRK and in any way, kingkhan's arguments I cited and refuted in the first post, are simply false (how many times ever members repeat the blockbuster argument).

But maybe some just aren't inclined to accept this?

And as some still bring Salman and Aamir in the arguments: both are what today is called "nepo-kids"...SRK definitely wasn't (despite all the connections he may have had because of his mother./father..).

I never said I believe the affair. I said the alleged affair and rumours around it were milked to market Don series and especially pumped up promotions around Don 2. It did help the film and it is sad how even a film like Don had to be marketed on basis of chemistry or offscreen alleged affair of its male and female leads.

The argument is not about nepotism at all but how SRK mostly remained confined to YRF, Dharma and got slotted as mainly a romantic hero thanks to them. Despite his potential as a versatile hero.

How is it a risk when SRK was a newcomer and had no choices anyway?

A newbie, outsider with no godfather, took whatever he got. That explains some cheap choices like Maya Memsaab too.

It is not like he was spoilt for choice or had many options and still took a risk.

As a newcomer, outsider and just a Doordarshan actor, SRK took whatever he got and was probably only too happy to get film offers.

I would not agree with lionising SRK as some risk taker.

Given how he later mostly did romantic films with same old YRF, Dharma, until he decided to experiment a bit with Excel offering him Don and Raees.

The reason why this thread is unique 👍🏼

Is because the TITLE is asking us to predict.

PREDICTING SRK's CAREER without KJO & YRF is very difficult. 😲

Yes, rck, it's a kind of supposing (but not really predicting because since 12 years he didn't made a movie with KJo and Pathan will be a YRF movie (but not Aditya-movie) after Fan in 2016 (not a romantic movie!).

Of all the movies with a prominent role (60 movies), SRK made 14 movies with KJo/YRF...

atominis, if you look at SRK's filmography, he indeed took more than one risk during his career. And yes, the beginning already was risk-taking as such as being a successful TV actor would not have implied to become a successful Hindi filmstar...

I don't know how YRF makes its contracts but usually big production houses book promising actors/actresses (and directors etc.) for a certain amount of movies in advance.

Throughout his career, SRK has done a lot of movies where romance was just a part of the masala...
