Things Bollywood should actually get bashed for

What are the things that Bollywood should actually and deservedly get criticism for? (Beyond recent propaganda)

For me, it would be lack of originality, plagiarism, misogyny, glorifying excessive violence and gore, sleazy dialogues, vulgar songs, scenes, promoting superstitions (in real life also with all totke stars openly do), nepotism, giving no fair opportunity to talent and resorting to unfair means like casting couch, connections mattering more than talent and hard work, stars being known more for PR, offscreen antics than actual work, too much skin show but no work on voice modulation, acting, language, writing, creativity, bad special effects, herd mentality and everyone doing same kind of things once a formula clicks, making period films or real life based films without actual details or authenticity of facts.

What are things according to you, that BW deserves legit criticism for?

But these are the things that (most of) the audience want from a Bollywood movie. Mirzapur had a good story. But they packed it to the brim with sleazy scenes and over the top violence to appeal to the audience and it worked like a charm. Item songs with skin shows, violence, sappy love story, VFX with action sequences are the pillars on which a massy commercial movie stands. Just look at the flak an intelligent commercial movie like Ponniyin Selvan trailer (PS-1) is receiving on Youtube just because the VFX is not up to Bahubali standards or that ambience is bright. Plainly ignoring the things they got right -a talented director who is capable of telling a good story, interesting gray characters who are capable of hooking your interest, a diverse cast who range from very good to bland. Most of the audience(me included) aren't interested in going beyond the superficial.

Promotions. They should be bashed left, right n center for doing incessant promotions of their mediocre products.

I don't think one should compare the wishes of the general (mass-)audience in India and the more westernized one.

I agree with your wishes regarding what popular Hindi Cinema SHOULD provide but I guess, it will still be a long way that it will make mainstream movies which will respect in general (not in exceptions) what you wrote.

@bold, everything BW is limiting themselves by not opening to outside and not giving them good roles to shine. BW has limited actors/actresses, so can become boring seeing same faces again and again, also singers. Given the population size I can bet they can find talent to be utilized in every field of film making.
