Both Raj Kapoor and Mithun Da had a huge fan following in Russia. I think in today's time, that kind of craze is rare to see.

I thought Aamir was big in China? Heard Rajni Kanth is big in some east Asian countries, too.

That was pre-covid time & only few indian films gain success, not all. Yes, Rajnikanth is huge in Japan & Malaysia. Senior Actors might have pull, but not stars from RK's time.

The kind of budget this kind of film is made with, OS collections matter a lot. It would be 60–70% of the contribution from overseas. Then only it will make some profit, else it will be a loss.

I don’t think overseas profits go to Dharma or Indian distributors at all. It’ll probably go to Disney or some other entity.

OT, a few of us mentioned it in the original trailer topic that it looked too animated. So yea I get the cartoonish reference here. And since CW was mentioned I’m assuming these were mostly Americans who commented on it. Americans who are fans of fantasy superhero genre are used to top notch special effects Hollywood studios churn out so yea Brahmstra is not gonna impress them.

Even to sell this film to an overseas distributor, they need a global audience formula that this will have a non-desi audience as well. This film will be sold for higher prices as compared to previous Dharma films.

Afghans, Iranians, a lot of Arabs/middle easterners, Indonesians, Malaysians, Russians, Chinese. Bollywood is popular among other cultures as well. However I don’t know if any of them are even close to the sheer number of Indian audiences not just in terms of numbers but profits as well.

Well , RRR even with tacky effects made quite an impression on the firangis , so I was wondering why Brahmastra did not .. I have no obsession over Videshis but I want global recognition for our desi movies and I thought this movie was made to do so ..

Also, as someone pointed out , OS collections do matter for this film ..

Brahmstra’s global audience will still be Bollywood audience. I don’t think the average American who loves Marvel or DC comic movies will watch this or care to.

All that being said, I don’t know what kind of a deal Dharma has with Disney so

Movie-making is a business, and the money will help the sector grow, so that's good.

Another thing is Hollywood served as a 2nd State dept for the U.S. govt for decades. It's soft diplomacy though not intentional on the part of the film-makers. Bollywood could potentially do the same for India. So what non-Indians think of the quality will be somewhat important.

The effects looked pretty good to me?

Also, Minnal Murali actually had poor CGI/VFX. But they focused on the movie's strengths in the trailer, which was plot and humor, so it went over well.
