Yeah its their wish. But wastage is wastage. In many countries, there are laws against having too many guests and including too many items in the menu.

I also like the culture for requesting guests to send the count of people coming for wedding occasion. So that food+plates can be arranged accordingly.. less wastage.

No! The moment a parent chooses to be a parent, this person owe to the helpless, vulnerable, dependent little being. There are faaar toooo many examples of grown ups having exploited, abused, misunderstood their resonsability towards those who love them despite being exploited, abused and hurt violently. No religion or cultural "laws" can be an excuse for those who are doing wrong - in the name of love or whatever it is chosen.

You watch movies from the UK and US. Christianity is the majority religion there and they have plenty of movies and shows mocking christianity and jesus. Have you ever watched south park? Look for an episode called 'Red Hot Catholic Love' - this ad will feel like tele-tubbies in front of it.

They even have serious, mainstream movies tackling problems that are prevalent in Christianity. It is very common. And sure there are staunch, orthodox christians who have a problem with these movies and shows and call for their ban, but these movies and shows are still made.

I do not know much about movies and shows in middle eastern and islamic countries, so cannot really comment on that.

Even in this thread, people are claiming Hindu-phobia amongst other people who are most likely Hindus. The criticism is coming from Hindus, many of them practicing Hindus. There is no real threat to Hinduism, besides politics and politicians.

@bold — except that, that doesn’t happen. Not that I heard of. And when someone tries to, repeat of Charlie Hebdo and that French teacher incident, so people are afraid.

All in all, let’s continue to criticize Hinduism and Christianity. Well I don’t mind though. You can debate with open minded people and glad Hindus are that.

Fcuk NY times and Washington post for saying otherwise and painting an entire community wrong for their twisted agenda.

There is no threat to Hinduism. It’s a way of life. There’s no hardcore religion here. There’s no rules as such. I don’t believe that Hinduism is at threat. Culture and traditions may vanish, even the good ones too. But People change with changing times. And so other things. Accept and move ahead.

But for what international media wants to portray, there is a threat to immigrant Hindus. The whole false equivalence of Hindu terror that gets repeated by NYTimes, Washington Post and BBC is detrimental to someone living abroad. My neighbor starts viewing me through those lenses. They want to project Hindus as aggressors for a communal riots that happens in India (in the riots Hindus gets killed too but let’s not waste our breath over them. Tolerant society hai, ki farak penda.) which we are not. Hindus are not aggressors. Anyone saying otherwise is shitting from their mouth.

Edit: I haven’t read the thread. I don’t want to derail. No offense and if my post is derailing the topic, ignore. I am an immigrant Hindu living abroad and I just ranted.

i

I would recommend the below:

The stoning of Soraya (warning - very disturbing, you might not be able to sleep for days). It’s based on a true story.

Al Rwabi school for girls - (Jordanian) gossip girl kind of show but has a dark vibe to it in the shadow conservative patriarchal values.

Books:

A thousand splendid suns by Khaled Hossini

Books by jean sasson - especially the Sultana ones.. it’s supposedly about a real Saudi princess.

Also - the real Dubai Princess who has been probably murdered by now, her plea for help was never answered.. she tried running off to India but was caught 😭🥺

https://youtu.be/GBrgzG_SGU0

In conclusion, yes we are probably better off.. but still not the best or issues still persist for many..
