And she was far more beautiful as Kashi than that hawasi homewreacker Mastani. Godd I despised Mastu so much. 🤢

Well, if that's the case, then the real Bajirao didn't care for the real Mastani all that much. Theirs was not some epic love story, but well, artistic license.

Besides, PC was the only thing worth watching about that movie. Whether or not Kashi Bai was beautiful, I'm glad PC got to play her.

Deepika had a harder job and double challenge is Priyanka had better role in terms of being able to identify and Kashi as a wife was wronged...also with Priyana have edge over Dp in skill level.

I would say Deepika did a very good job given the circumstances ...its Padmaavat where she failed as an actress(IMO).

I mean...its hard to like 'Smita Patil' in Arth as an other woman too...that too in mordern times.She knew she is having an affair and plan to marry a already married man.She tries to buy his wife with money to divorce him.You cannot even like a great actress like Smita patil in such a role...and mind you smita's role had it defences unliek Mastani where Smita patil had a mental illness and the guy is potrayed as a jerk. Still its hard...

Its SLb's vision. He was looking for Bajirao-Mastani...its Ash-Salman on-offscreen spark made him think of this pair.

He wanted something similar when he started looking for other actors. Ram-Leela was basically an audition of Bajirao-Mastani ...he needed Ranveer-Deepika to work as Ram-leela to be certain and look no further.

Its still a commercial cinema...Deepika-Ranveer off screen romance had its play in the whole game and still a Big risk for SLB with DP-Ranveer considering the budget and clashing with Dilwale.

with no disrespect to the movie and SLB...its still a superficial movie...did not really require vetting an Art actresses ...it needed stars.

That seems like a very simplistic approach. I don't think that was the reason Bajirao left her. It had something to do with political alliances and of course mutual attraction but I doubt it was because of looks only,

Exactly, Deepika's job was a lot harder in terms of getting the audience to like or identify with her character...

Indian audience (or audience from most other countries for that matter) find it extremely difficult to sympathise with the "other woman", even if her character is fairly logical... and here Mastani just came across as desperate, low-key obsessive and insensitive... tbh it would be kind of worrying if a lot of women identified with her position or feelings 😆.

Though I don't agree that Priyanka is a generally a better actress than Deepika, I think they are equal in skill, but simply have different strengths and weaknesses.

And yes I do agree though that she was disappointing in Padmavat, but even there Khilji, his wife and toyboy seemed to get more screen time than her though she was the titular character, so she didn't have as much of an opportunity to show her talent as she should have imo

Heck, I didn't even understand when exactly Mastani fell for Bajirao? It's like her friend just brainwashed her into believing that she was looking sooooo good in Bajirao's arms when he was carrying the unconscious & wounded her and she suddenly started behaving all coy & blushy around him 🤦🏻 Like seriously?

The so called epic love story looked like a lust-story of 2 brainless people. No wonder Kashibai got all the sympathies & Priyanka walked away with all the accolades😆

The sets, costumes and songs were brilliant but the central love story of Bajirao and Mastani unfortunately made very little sense to most of us 😕

Like obviously I felt bad at what happened to both of them later on, but it all just seemed so pointless... and tbh to me Mastani seemed like the root cause of everyone's misery (including her own and that of her poor kid)... after all she was the one who actively pursued Bajirao in the beginning despite his lukewarm responses and being fully aware of his marriage...

Okay.... so that was my opinion. 😆 I feel if anyone else other than Deepu could have filled the shoes of Mastani, in terms of looks, it was Sonam. Looks wise Sonam is very beautiful. She looked breathtaking in Sawariya....a re-creation of that would have looked good for Mastaani I guess.

On Katrina : I don't know😆 She looks very European to me. Maybe her accent is also a bit responsible for that.

She is beautiful no doubt, but she doesn't look her best in traditional clothes imo.

Yeah I find Sonam extremely annoying but gotta admit she did look very pretty in Sawaria... and also I just realised she wouldn't have been an option for Mastani not just because of her lack of acting skills but also because she's Ranveer's cousin 😆

And yeah I do think the reason why Kat seems so foreign is because of her accent and mannerisms (which she has unfortunately been unable to change in any role due to her poor acting skills), rather than her actual appearance... I live in the U.K. and to me Kat looks nothing like a fully white English girl... her features and colouring are definitely look more North Indian or middle eastern than white... even in BW there are fully Indian people like Kareena, Anushka or Hrithik who look lighter and more foreign than Kat does...
