This doesn’t mean one caste, race, religion or gender people should have more rights than others or get away with CRIME just because they are more in numbers, but that the government will normally and should try to do what the majority of the public want.

But yeah democracy is achieved through allowing public to vote and the party with the most votes then doing what the public want them to, except in cases of crime or extreme injustice.

Turns out I may not be the one who doesn’t understand Indian politics (or the concept of democracy) after all 🙃

Red: Yeah, the government should do what the public want, law and logic be damned. That's exactly what we call "trial by media" and "mob lynching", both of which are happening to Rhea.

Rhea is in jail for weed, something which NOBODY gets jailed for even after practising in the open. This was the direct case of wanting to "appease the mob".

Answer a question: Do you think Hitler and Stalin were democratic leaders?

P.S. After what you just wrote, good luck convincing anybody you understand even the basics of politics or democracy.

Someone who thinks majority are fools and trying to impose a minority opinion calling it as an expert opinion.

Yes, there are cases when elected leader becomes a dictator.India elected Indira Gandhi, later she took over the control of all government agencies and imposed emergency. That does not imply India voted for emergency or dictatorship.

(Your expert opinion is clearly visible by the language used. Well, Obviously you have more expertise here, as my upbringing is different).

Yep, we definitely just heard this person comparing putting drug dealers and rioters in jail to throwing innocent Jews in death camps for their religion 🙃🙃

You must have missed the chapter on 'tyranny of the majority' in your democracy classes. Direct democracy was a huge failure in Greece because the public can't be trusted to do what's right. They do what's beneficial for themselves and not what is right for everyone. That's why modern democracies are usually representational democracies and not direct democracies because the hope is that representatives will control the worst impulses of the general public. But even the best laid systems fail sometimes as is happening both in the US and India right now.

The majority can be fools. That is the point here. That's the point everybody is making. Ram Mohan Roy fought to make Sati illegal when the majority supported it. Witch burning was a POPULAR sport in the West in the 18th century. The MAJORITY of people believed once that sun revolves around the Earth.

And yet you're arguing on the basis of "majority is always correct". And then you ask me why I feel the need to give lessons on basic understanding of politics and democracy.

Looks like I have to start a lesson on history and common sense next.

P.S. Speaking about other people's upbringing shows what yours was truly like. Thanks for doing it. I'm done entertaining your intellectually malnourished posts. You can continue gabbing.😉

No offence, but arguing with you on politics is like trying to explain Ph.D level mathematics to a 6th grader. Btw I hate the INC with a passion, but that's not even the point here. Leave Indian politics, I doubt you even understand politics of ANY nation anywhere.

Why don't you do some reading and research first? Especially regarding how Fake News came to be such an epidemic in India and the workings of news channels such as Republic and Times Now?

OK so which party do you support? At least it isn’t INC so that’s something that makes me take you a bit more seriously 🤷🏽‍♀️

And I don’t understand politics? What don’t I understand?

And as for the “fake news” thing, Ill stick to the point here: I will believe the accusations against Rhea and co are fake when they are able to produce substantial evidence to say they are all completely innocent in the SSR case, and the courts accept it.

Witch hunt? The girl is a drug dealer 😆 she's in jail for drugs now and not related to SSR's death 🤣 She has admitted it herself yet 🤣

lmao. The Nazis also didn't become the Nazis overnight. The fact that they can lock up people on spurious charges, independent agencies are being controlled by sheer naked power of the ruling party, friends and neighbors are being asked to snitch on each other, courts are being controlled by the ruling party, etc. are warning bells.

The only reason they haven't built concentration camps yet is because today's world has a lot more transparency. There are satellites and cameras pointed everywhere and they wouldn't be able to get away with it. But it's not because they are better at heart than the Nazis. The PM himself is believed to been part of a pogrom that killed thousands of people. The man was outright banned from entering certain foreign countries before he came into power.

The entire platform this party won on is based on hate.

So what is happening now in India that is tyrannical?

And if (in your LITERAL WORDS) “the public can’t be trusted to do what’s right”, then what is the alternative?

And the extent to which government can control the impulse of the masses is by asking them not to indulge in crime, and punishing them if they do. That’s it.

I for sure would rather have a democratically elected government that does what the public want rather than an oligarchy of a handful of people who do what THEY want (and claim it’s whats good for “everyone”, kinda like some toxic family members 😂) and also like in some ridiculous communist country, which is what you seem to want 🤷🏽‍♀️
