No, Rhea also moved on and started dating her boss (Arjun Rampal).

They wouldn't. Both weren't good human beings and needed therapy. They were selfish and were undergoing unaddressed trauma.

Relationships formed on the bed of infidelity don't end up well in most situations unless there are external factors involved. There are exceptions of course. If the cheater is the victim in the relationship/marriage, or it's a forced arrangement. Such unique circumstances do arise.

Iirc the germ of Dev and Maya's relationship in KANK was boredom/self-efficacy issues.

Boredom is an innate aspect of human relationships. Teenagers are bored of their parents. They outgrow them. Many people are bored by their old friend circle. Long-term relationships suffer from the same.o

Fortunately, you can take a "break" from your parents (like living alone, going to a different city/country to study, etc.), or you can choose not to meet your friends every day. These time periods usually transform the relationship if it's already strong. If not, it just withers away.

Society is shaped in such a manner today that you can't take a break from your significant other even if you pledge fidelity. In olden times, a woman would spend half of her matrimonial life in her maika. This helped resolve issues arising from boredom or love fatigue. Today, it's unthinkable.

Everything moves so fast, vanishes even faster.

Digressing.

In KANK, Dev and Maya were bitter people who clung onto one another. That isn't sustainable. It would work like a charm in a chaotic 6-12 month relationship, but ultimately, they would simply start despising each other.

His spic and span golden boy halo would be really irritating and shallow. He was nice but didn't have any depth.

Dev was a mess. He was as broken as she was and had the ability to understand and connect to her in a way a blemish-free Rishi would never be able to. She wouldn't feel lower by default the way most people would feel with Rishi. I think she was a lot more content with Dev and would be happier living a smaller middle-class lifestyle with him. She also wouldn't have to feel guilty that he was doing her some huge favor putting up with her.

We got a glimpse of it. Both Rhea and Dev were very busy individuals...with Rhea getting her job at the fashion magazine and Dev winning the match. But even on their phone call you could sense the misogyny. Dev was legit mocking Rhea for not being there for his match, knowing very well that she had a very important interview.

Afaik anyone belonging to an industry with glamour understand how difficult things can get. In fact individuals working in these industries have to be much more understanding.

I feel Rhea stuck around because of their child and mother in law. And somewhere she was still hoping for him to change. If it weren't for Maya, I think they would've divorced within a few years anyways.

Rishi and Maya on the other hand...there was this one scene where Maya says that I can't give you a child, I am too gharelu etc...why don't you leave me? And to that Rishi says "Kamiya hum done mean hai Maya, farak sirf itna hai ki tum humesha rishta todhne ki baat karti ho, our main jodhne ki baat."

No matter how juvenile Rishi behaved, I came to the conclusion he would exaggerate to get Maya's attention. Because if not love, then he wished she'd express some emotion, even if it was maternal.

Maya and Dev were both stubborn and non cooperating individuals. See their behaviour in the song Rock and Roll, you'll understand what I am saying.

I do understand what you are saying..

What I mean is k Dev-Rhea marriage was already finished by the time he met Maya.. he couldn't deal with Rhea having her dream when he didn't have his.. he needed therapy which he didn't get.. His mother was useless.. he was bitter, and frustrated and had no love for Rhea

Same is the case with Rishi-Maya.. Maya felt incomplete due to her infertility which once again needed therapy.. Rishi's love and niceness made her feel more burdened since she couldn't give him anything in return and she wanted Rishi to stop being this nice to her

In both marriages, the spouses were on unequal footing which is why they fell apart.. Dev-Maya cheating was actually good for Rhea and Rishi since otherwise they would never have gotten out of their shams of marriage

And Dev-Maya relationship was on equal footing so they too would have lasted.. Maya felt at ease with Dev because she didn't feel burdened with him k she couldn't give him anything in return. Dev was happy with Maya because he didn't feel overshadowed or indebted to her.. that's why they would work out

I wish instead of cheating, they could have shown Dev Maya realizing this and coming out if their weddings to get together

Well Dev and Maya were both difficult people but then again the reasons for which they hated their previous partners would no longer be present:

Dev resented Ria for her successful career, and Maya is a home maker. Maya didn’t like being married to Rishi because he wouldn’t have been her original choice and she feels she only married him out of duty, and that’s not at all the case with Dev, who she liked of her own... and then there was the fact that Maya felt guilty for being infertile as Rishi wanted kids, but Dev seems to hate kids base don’t off how he treated his son lmao 😂😂.

But then again they were both prone to cheating, and had moody personalities so I feel there’s a strong chance (like 50-60% lmao) that they would just fight horribly and split up like they did with their previous partners, just for different reasons.

Other than the infidelity part, I loved the characterisation. Every character was grey, unlike K3G and KKHH. It was super controversial for the time it had released.

Rewatching it also made me realise how we had such talented actresses like Preity and Rani playing grown up, mature roles and not some 20 year olds trying to be 30. I would personally love to see them on screen again, there are so many storylines honestly about people in their 40s, if only someone would do it.

I seriously never understood why Karan had to show the sleeping together Wala thing.. it literally brought the whole movie down.. agar woh sequence na hota tou movie itna criticize bhi na hoti

I guess they wanted to show k what Maya felt for Dev, she never felt for Rishi but there were a dozen ways to show that.. that sleeping big overshadowed all the characterizations and basic plot of movie
