Would Dev and Maya still be together? I KANK I

Ofc none of us support the infidelity shown in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. I loved how the film wasn't an all our SRK-Rani flick but every character had an important part in it. Both Abhishek and Preity were amazing.

So I got thinking...if Dev and Maya were real people do you think they'd be together?

Let's be real they were horrible people. Both Rishi and Rhea suffered the most.

Rishi tried everything to keep the spark alive. After all of Maya's disinterest he still didn't cheat but kept on trying to make it work. Rhea was the sole breadearner and she never made Dev feel inferior about it...he was a prick to her. He had no idea how to take care of his son. The fact that Dev's mom and their son wanted to live with Rhea spoke volumes about her character.

Imo Dev would've remained a bitter short tempered chauvinist and would've made Maya's life hell too. Because neither of them redeemed themselves or tried to work on their flaws. I doubt they'd have an HEA after all.

Thoughts?

Dev was definitely a horrible dad but I'm positive Rhea does make him seem inferior for not being the breadwinner of the family.

Maya was full of herself always in her bechari mode as if she did some ehsaan on rishi

Same goes with a**hole dev, bechara surviving on wife's money

Dono itne self centred, selfish the that they couldn't see the gems theirs parters were (gadhe ko zafran ki kya kadr)

So, I feel that the cheaters may not have cheated but their life may not be a bed of roses. Both pathetic human beings cannot tolerate each other for long. It was their ex partner's greatness that their shitty behaviour was being tolerated

Eventhough the movie was shitty overall I personally love love this scene and how amazingly she stood up against that a$$hole

Honestly both are right and wrong in this scene. Dev toh hai hi a resentful a$$hole, but Rhea is also a b!tch for calling herself the man of the house. A woman can be the breadwinner of the family without insulting her husband's manhood.

While I found a large portion of the movie realistic in terms of infidelity and marriages falling apart despite best intentions, I found the ending extremely unrealistic.

It is easy for me to believe that Dev was still single and miserable because he was a miserable man. His injury made him angry, resentful, and bitter. Unless he went to serious therapy for managing his insecurity I don't find him capable of having a healthy relationship.

But I find it difficult to believe that Maya was single and miserable for three whole years. Yes, she too has insecurities over being infertile, but her reason for unhappiness in a marriage doesn't truly stem from her insecurity. Its that she grew up with Rishi and could not love him romantically and sexually despite his best efforts. I get pining for Dev immediately after the divorce, but I don't understand why she would pine for him so long.

Unless Dev has shed his insecurity I don't see the relationship last. He will get angry and bitter every time she is happier than him and destroy the relationship.

Don't you think he provoked her?

I agree that she is wrong in taunting him by calling herself "man of the house." But I can see her anger in context. She just made a career sacrifice for her family and was just trying to share her experience with her spouse but gets castigated by her husband. He also takes out his anger on their son. In addition to Dev's behavior - I am sure as a woman she's exhausted to hear people question why she places career above family - a question men rarely get asked.

People say all kinds of mean things when hurt and provoked. While this does not justify her actions or make it right - I think many people in her position would have reacted similarly. I think most of us would react very poorly if our significant other was so bitter and unsupportive.

I'd hope he died alone and miserable

(Yes, I'm being petty toward a movie character)
