This is hilarious.

I know it's cultural and normal in certain countries - the arranged marriage thing - but I can't imagine not having the choice in this matter. Some of the stories told here are hair-raising. 😳

How I wish this were actually true and all parents were that progressive. Sadly, log kya kahenge still plagues Indian society.

My friend married a guy who was asexual without knowing, moved abroad and her parents till date still tell her to go back. P.S. In the end, she did a runner.

In today's age, most people don't care about parents or relatives, at least in cities. If you look at the statistics, you'll see divorce rates have increased through leaps and bounds in the last ten years.

I nearly got married to a closeted gay few years. I had shed more tears with him than during my depressive phase. My parents broke of that alliance due to his gay weekends. He and his gay buddies have beard weddings. Their wives are even weirder.

My life got saved.

Wow, thanks for sharing! I can't believe the wives are okay with the weekend getaways? 😕

My bff got arranged married to a rich gay guy too, they were married for two months. They never had sex and also he was developmentally delayed. I'm glad your parents supported you because my friend's mom blamed her so much for not sticking it out and bringing shame to the family 🤢

I wonder how true this is. Arranged marriages are often associated with certain cultures. Cultures where historically speaking divorce is never really an option. So you ‘stick it out’, even if unhappy. How do we then really measure longevity? That’s not to say people in love marriages in these same cultures don’t face the same divorce stigma.

The stigma is same both love and arranged marriages.. the longevity of marriage depends on the individuals and now how they were married

If a girl has been taught to always compromise, she will do it irrespective of whether she had a love or arranged marriage.. if a guy is ingrained with the idea that marriages are forever, he will strive to see it through irrespective of whether his marriage was love or arranged

Staying with him would have been shameful..asking daughter to stay with a gay husband is shameful...I don't know why parents don't realize that gay men don't become straight..miracles don't happen if the woman loves the guy enough...I don't understand the priorities of some people

I am engaged love marriage different religion, different countries, its very stressful.

Both have their own struggles, in love some are lucky parents agree and some have to struggle. In arranged you face being with someone you may not know inside out and you may face some unpleasant surprises but also some pleasant ones?

The only rule of life is people change and that can happen in love or arranged. I have seen successes and failures in both ways.

Yes, interesting, isn't it? Or the old European royal marriage, where princes and princesses were married for royalty sake and even sometimes with warring country royalty. Like Charles 2 and Catherine of Bergenza or prince Arthur and princess Catherine of aragon.

But maybe these things look exciting only on the pages of historical romance novels.
