That could have a wide range of topics but Ayushman's are much more restricted than that. They are films that make average men feel good about themselves. It's okay if you're bald, it's okay if you have erectile dysfunction, it's okay if your wife is fat, it's okay if you have a mediocre job, etc.
That's why his gay movie flopped because average men don't care about this subject. It doesn't make them feel good about themselves.
SMZS failed because it was an absolute dross.
The movie opened at nearly 9 crores. So audience was there, just the movie turned out to be utterly boring and pointless.
There are many for sure leagues better than him.You need to explore.

Isn't everyone doing the same according to this forum?
Akshay - Patriotic
Shahrukh- romantic
Ranbir- Man child
Varun- Remakes of Govinda and Salman movies of 90s
Ajay- Action
Etc etc etc
So who is doing different genres and roles according to IF. I am genuinely interested in knowing the answer, coz everyone here is considered overrated, repetitive, underrated, non actor.
PS- I want to have a healthy discussion over this.
Haha..😆 Ek dum dho daala aapne to..!👏

Most of his movies are boring and pointless but the gay movie just won't appeal to his core viewers. They tried it out and couldn't sustain it.
There's nothing funny in his comedies either except for the feel-good factor for average middle-class men. I don't even like Akshay but I'd much rather watch Good News than every single Ayushman lame comedy.
As for why is he doing these types movies.
Because this is his USP, this is where his audience is. He has to maintain this audience, while trying different things. I think he is doing completely fine with balancing his genres and other genres. It is career suicide if you stop doing what people loved you in, until you find something else where you are even better. Like Akki was doing on action, until he found comedy, than he started doing patriotic social dramas and now he is going to masala again. So Ayushmann should not leave his genre until he finds something else where he is even better.

Ayushmann's core audience is the new age woke millennials brigade, not the launde lapade. Seems like you haven't followed Ayushmann well.
At least it's better now and actors get to experiment with different roles/looks/settings/genres, though it is still limited compared to Hollywood.
Back in the older days, it was always the same people playing the same roles in almost every freaking film.. i can name so many of them😆
Amitabh Bachchan - Angry young man
Pran - Rich, arrogant father
A K Hangal - Poor, simpleton father
Nirupa Roy - mother who would cry over every small thing
Johnny Walker - comedian with side roles
Ranjeet - villain lusting over female lead and after money
Manorama - tyrant mother/aunt obsessed with money and hates poverty
Lalita Pawar - controlling rich mother

Not talking about launde lapade. What sounded like launde lapade to you in "average middle-class men?" Launde Lapades are working class. These are the boring engineers who get arranged marriages and live out their dull lives.
