Hey,
So before my internship starts I have been binge watching Hollywood romances. I found two with very substantial similarities with Hollywood films.
One was "The Longest Ride." It had two people in love fighting and choosing between their ambitions or their love. Eventually love conquered all. They took inspiration from a elderly man and his typical olden days romance. I immediately thought of "Love Aajkal." I thought that Bollywood must have been inspired from Hollywood. But I noticed the comparison to the original "Love Aajkal," which released in 2009. But than I thought about how it was based off a Nicolas Spark book. I thought the book must have been inspired Imtiaz Ali. But NO! The book also released in 2013. Way after the original Love Aajkal. But if you watch the movie the comparison is too substantial for it to simply be a coincidence? Yes, Hollywood has taken inspiration from Bollywood before.
The other comparison might be more famous. It was a movie called Bounce with Ben Affleck and Gwyneth Paltrow. The male lead gives his ticket to another man. The plain crashes. The male lead drinks in guilt ends up and rehab. After he gets out he seeks redemption. He helps the wife of the man who died on the plane with her job. He forms a relationship with their two kids and family. This was a lot like "Tum Bin." Although this movie released a year before Tum Bin. I must say I felt Tum Bin was better made film overall. Besides switching your plane ticket with someone is more accidental than a car crash.
Between "The Longest Ride" and "Love Aajkal" both films were so so. The actors in the "The Longest Ride" had more chemistry.
Did anyone else notice these comparisons? Are their any others?
