Though I admit that it's difficult to imagine above actresses in doing roles which Alia did in Raazi, Highway, Udta Punjab etc. But the point is I don't want to judge these actrsses until they do such roles. May be if Kriti or Yami or any of them have been offered such roles like in Highway, they would have done better. And I don't think, they don't want to do such roles ,they definitely would have said yes to such roles. Alia did get lucky because she got such movies very early in her career, though I liked her performances in those but that doesn't mean others are any less especially few of them.

Anushka is not considered a good actress with NH10 and even Pari she did prove that she can do such roles with near perfection. So above ones, if get good scripts, they might nail it too.

We cant judge other actresses as mediocre and put Alia on a pedestal, and thats becoz the others arent given that chance yet. Alia did put her best in whatever roles she did, but I still wouldnt say that those were extraordinary performances barring Udta Punjab maybe. Others if given a chance can still prove their mettle. But why blame Alia, I would blame the directors also for not putting faith in these other actresses. Most of them have been around for quite some time now, yet none were offered those big fat roles. Zoya for her Ghost Stories went to Janhvi.. I wonder why.. she was very mediocre in Dhadak, but still in her second outing only she got role from a seasoned director. Ananya is doing movie with Shakun(whose movies I have loved so far). No offense, but she looks like a kid to me who can maybe carry off teenager roles. This was quite evident in Pati Patni aur Woh when Kriti entered at the end. She brought some much charisma in those few mins which Ananya coudnt bring in that entire movie. Yami.. another one.. Even after successful muvis like Vicky Donor and Uri, no one is offering her substantial parts.. she has the looks and skills.. I think she can carry SLB type royal look very well...

So I would say directors are equally to be blamed, who take all the good scripts to Alia, as if they trust no other actress to do justice to their material. This is why auditions are so damn necessary..

I agree with @HakunaMatata. I want to add this to my answer, that apart from the directors and producers, it's also the audience fault that they give hype to only few selective ones, directors and people like KJo glorified Alia and even her critically acclaimed performances got noticed. While, despite Sonakshi did amazing in Lootera, didn't get much hype. I still feel Sonakshi had the potential to pull of such characters like in Lootera, but I am shocked despite her brilliant performance in that movie, she didn't come up with such roles. Though she was too hyped but Lootera didn't. Same with lleana, Parineeti, Bhumi. The problem is even if they do such roles, because of the lack of hype, they might get unnoticed. Directors, producers are also selfish, they only want to invest in the hyped ones, I don't blame them completely because it requires a lot of effort to make movie but if they don't get hype and numbers, all efforts get wasted. So, they mostly go for already popular ones like Ananya, Jhanvi and others. The only good thing is talent lasts long. Like Tabu is leading now when her glamorous overhyped contemporaries are no where to be seen.

Also, Even Vidya got noticed in Parineeta, she even didn't get such scripts but she continued finding her place, and now she has reached. I would also give credit to directors who showed interest in her, I do feel new directors really need to show same interest in good talent, and we might have another Vidya lining up.

They should have approached parvathy for the film. The film itself is nothing to write home about but a good actress could have elevated the film
