movie is not to be blamed on acting what are you even talking about? Have you watched? She did a wonderful job, 90% of critics are praising her. Her acting did not failed, direction and screenplay did. Before dragging someone work better you watch instead of spreading fake reviews based on your own prejudices

I just came across to a few articles on IF, why Chhapaak team is using/bringing Laxmi for promotion?

Isn't movie PR team or cast/crew supposed to do that?

what is Agarwal doing in BB house?

No point in arguing with the people who celebrates the failure of DP , this moment is yours to celebrate .

This will be my last comment on Chapaak as whatever we state the anti DP people will make it a excuse .

In kerala, movies don't work on starpower. Occasionally mohanlal but that's it. Malayalam audience assess the quality and acting of the movie and that is why they are always far superior than the rest of em.

I think it is quite clear that Chappak is not that good of a movie either. Wish they had a better direction and casting, probably the movie would have done much better.

Chhapaak Day 2 Estimates: Deepika Padukone's film shows a LIMITED growth at the Box-OfficeChhapaak Day 2 Estimates: Deepika Padukone's film shows a LIMITED growth at the Box-Office

Bollywood Hungama News Network

Sat Jan 11 22:32:10 IST

After an ordinary start at the box-office, Deepika Padukone’s Chhapaak has seen an upward trend in the business on its second day as early estimates suggest collection in the range of Rs. 6.25 to 6.75 crore taking the two day total to Rs. 11 to 11.50 crore. Being a film appealing primarily to the high end multiplexes, the growth should have been more as in the past we have seen multiplex oriented cinema double up their collections on Saturday.

While a section will blame the below par performance of Chhapaak on Deepika’s visit to JNU to take a political stand, the fact lies that the content hasn’t been appreciated much and the competition from a strong opponent, Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior, has taken away a section of audience that might have seen Chhapaak, had it arrived solo. The collections are best in Delhi-NCR, Bangalore and Kolkata however it’s dull at other places across the country. A film like Chhapaak would have got ample of support from Mumbai City but it has been completely overpowered by the wave of Ajay Devgn’s period saga.

There will be limited growth in collections on Sunday and the film is looking to close its weekend a little under the Rs. 20 crore mark, which isn’t really an impressive result. We don't even rule out the possibility of a flat trend on Sunday. The second day collections should ideally have been the opening day for the film as that would have set a platform for growth over the weekend. The target for Chhapaak was weekend around the Rs. 30 crore mark, however it has fallen short of the target by Rs. 10 crore. With reports being highly mixed and a limited growth on Saturday, the future trend from Monday for this Deepika Padukone film looks hazy.

Also starring Vikrant Massey, Chhapaak is directed by Meghna Gulzar.

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior Strong Growth - Chhapaak Struggles

Sunday 11 January 2020 02.00 IST

Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior has shown strong growth to collect 20 crore nett on Saturday. The Jump for the film is around 40% which is huge for a film which has been releases in almost 4000 screens and opened well in mass pockets of Maharashtra. This will take the two day numbers of the film to 34.50 crore nett and it should be a strong Sunday.

The film has shown huge 60-70% growth where it was low on Friday be it East Punjab, Delhi / UP, or West Bengal. Mumbai has also shown an upward trend as Gujarat / Saurashtra went up 65% though in Maharashtra the growth is less at around 30% as it opened strongly here.

The collections are still average in some circuits as they started to so low but there the trend is super strong with huge gains on Saturday which is a good sign for the film going forward. The film should emerge a HIT going by this trend though that will only be confirmed by what happens on the weekdays.

Chhapaak is poor and has only gone up around 35-40% on Saturday which is not good for a metro multiplex film. The growth is less than Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior which pretty much tells the story as this film is for that Saturday multiplex audience while Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior for a wider audience where many places dont grow on Saturday. The second day number is around 6 crore nett taking its two day total to 10.50 crore nett.

The failure of this film will probably put down to the JNU college visit of Deepika Padukone but in reality that has a minimal affect and it is the film which has failed to an attract an audience and the limited audience it has found does not seem to have liked it and that is not much of a surprise. Basically the film is bad and its not an external factor pulling collections down.

Ok so I managed to watch Chapaak today in the theater. I didn't get tickets for Tanaji. (It seems to be incredibly well at the BO)

Ok here's my review. (spoliers ahead)

What I liked:

1) Performances: It's an out and out Deepika Padukone film. If you're a fan, you will love it. Vikrant does a good job too. Other supporting actors are good in their roles too.

2) Music: It supports the film really well.

3) Last scene: Those who've watched the film would know this. Spoiler: In the last scene, another girl gets her face splashed with acid (Deepika is not even in the scene). It was really shocking (coz it came out of nowhere).

What I didn't like:
1) Lack of momentum: There are no dialogues in the film that stand out. Also, none of the scenes stand out except the last scene, which only worked because of the shock-factor.

2) Narrative: I really don't understand why the makers felt that a non-linear narrative would help the film. It really confused the viewers when the scenes transitioned from back to present. Also, there are many time-jumps

3) Ending: Ending is depressing and it kinda makes sense as they couldn't have gone for a happy ending. But the ending looks abrupt and unceremonious. We got to see nothing of Malti (Laxmi) and what happened later in her life. Did her brother die? (In real, Laxmi's brother died). Also, Laxmi isn't even credited in the end of the film.

4) Underdeveloped characters: Vikrant's character seems one-dimensional. Several characters are introduced and they just come and go. They talk about certain things and the audience isn't even aware of the context. The writing was all over the place.

Chapak is an OK film. Neither excellent, nor bad. But I think A movie based on acid-attack really deserved better.

Uyare, a malyalam film starring Parvathy, dealt with the issue FAR BETTER, despite being a fictional story.

Parvathy in a Uyare >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Deepika in Chapaak

I feel sorry to give such a kind of review.

I really respect laxmi and other survivors for their struggle, I feel acid throwers deserves the same punishment as the rapists, maybe worse. Anybody who does such a thing should be ashamed of being born as a human.

The film really doesn't do any justice to the story. Deepika's performance is very bad. Stories like No one killed Jessica, Talvar, etc were gripping. They keep you hooked. This one's execution is very bland.

People aren't being too harsh due to the subject matter of the film and I totally respect that.

Anyway, don't care if the movie does any wonder for deepika, but I hope Laxmi and other survivors get some benefit out of it. Strong prayers for the girls.
